Hello all we are new to the forum and must say thank you for all the information we have found from all of you.
We are in the process of completing our EOI, we have a job offer in Gisborne which is fantastic, although we do not know much about Gisborne yet. Our query is the question about all family. Does this mean just mum dad brother sister or do we go further as in nephews uncles cousins, then where do we stop. I think this is our last query as we found the answers to all our other queries here.
Any help would be great on the family biz and if any one can tell us about Gisborne.
We are Dad Russell, mum Sharon and two boys James 4 and Benjamin almost 3.
:cheers

Hi Russell and Sharon and
WELCOME to the forum.
To answer your question, yes they just want spouse, parents, siblings, children.
Don't worry......if they want information thats not on your EOI, they will ask for it in the covering letter that comes with your ITA.
Well done on getting the job.........keep us posted.

I think you might want to put down the uncle only if he might want to come to NZ someday and claim you (and get extra points). I've heard it's hard to claim points for having a family member in NZ if they didn't put you on their EOI/ITA.

Thanks all for your replies.
Don't you only gain points for having "adult sibling, adult child or parent" living in NZ
I did'nt think I can gain points for my uncle or cousin who lives in Auckland.

Hmm. Not sure, but I know they would count toward the benchmark of having support in the country.

I shall put them all on just in case. We are sending the EOI of tonight so fingers crossed.

Hi,
I asked NZIS about this as i got very confused. You only get points for family members (parents, siblings) who are NZ residents/citizens.
You need to put down parents and siblings - this is not for the purpose of claiming points for them (unless of course they are NZ residents in which case you tick yes in the points question box) but actually so that NZIS have a record of them if any of them plan to apply for residency to join you in NZ in future. Also, the question about their health is relevant I guess as it may highlight family health problems (although the medical form also asks about your parent's health).
I found the family question quite hard as I was not sure of my mum or dad's date of birth (our family is very broken up, no contact etc). Haven't seem my mum since i was a toddler! NZIS will advise on how to deal with this if you are affected (e.g. to guess a rough date of birth based on how old you think they are and to fax a letter through explaining this). I was told that giving an inaccurate date of birth may compromise a future application of a family member - but no worries for me as i don't know who my mum is so i guess she won't be following me out here!!!

That's how I understood it too - they only want to know so they can kinda know who to expect to apply for residency next from your family! ;)
We initally didn't put anyone down on our EOI, as we didn't quite get it, but we added them on our ITA, and were told that was fine, as a lot of people apparently do that!

Thanks everyone. I ended up putting all our nephews, my uncle and cousins in NZ so know we just have to wait and see.
