"Rival airlines are expected to follow Air New Zealand's decision to raise fares, aviation experts predict.

An annual fuel bill that has doubled to $1 billion in the past two years has prompted Air New Zealand to increase all its fares by 10 per cent as of May 1."

I saw that too, I was just grateful we booked our tickets last week!

Since we know for sure we'll be flying Air NZ (they're the only ones who fly direct SFO-AKL), I'm thinking we should just pick a date and book the tickets now, get it over and done with.

If everything is ready and you have a rough idea of when you want to go, I'd say go for it, rather than risk paying over the odds for the tickets in 8 days time!

Thanks for the reassurance... I always find actually buying tickets a bit nerve wracking, especially when it's still 6 months away and they're one way tickets! (Have to start believeing that we're actually going!) We're going to apply for my husband's PR (partnership) once we're in NZ, and I talked to the NZ Consulate in LA yesterday about getting him a visa to get into NZ on a one-way ticket and that's all fine, so we're good to go in that respect.

We've just been through that! It's only 3 months away for us, but it's still hard to believe the dream is becoming reality!

I heard it's cheaper to do the PR once you're in NZ.

Go go go! lol

We booked last night!!

I am travelling back to the states in JUNE to get the dogs ready for their big trip and help the hubby pack up the last of the house stuff.

So, we just picked the days and took the plunge. Mine is a round trip ticket and his is a one way. We read on Air New Zealand site that you can make changes to dates prior to travel -so if anything major comes up, we can make changes for a small fee.

The prices have been climbing (ever so slightly) over the last month, so I felt it was now or pay BIG later!

I also LIKE knowing the date that my husband will finally be here :raebanana

Cheers

Well I have booked my boys tickets for the 5th September....finally got confirmation that the eldest is coming :raebanana

I had looked at the prices/dates on the friday after reading the first post (thanks Oregonkiwi) and the date that I wanted and price that was ok were available on a lot of sites....but today I had a bit of a scare as the site that I used to book ours for May and the one that had the cheapest price, was not available :wah ..........

any way after a frantic search I found a flight for our boys at a reasonable price on the day that we wanted.

(Emirates = Man - Dubai - Sydney - Chch - £1066.20 for 2 adults)

SO IF YOU WANT A REASONABLE PRICE.....BOOK SOON!

ttfn...from a HAPPY KAT! :D

well, we had to wait a few days for various reasons, but I just finished booking 3 one-way tickets for October 23. Who knew a few mouse clicks could be so terrifying! (But in a good way...)
