Hi Everyone,

I have just found my first home in Wellington, a nice little place on Mt. Victoria. I've now turned my attention to sorting out the boring little details that you have to go through when setting up your home and I'd like to know about your experiences of different companies.

Initially I am really interested in companies that provide electricity, water, telephone (with good ADSL) services and contents insurance for rental property. Obviously I am looking at companies that service the Wellington area but I would also be interested in any experiences from nationwide companies.

We are with Genesis for the leccy, no choice as I understand that when we moved in they were they only company in Miramar. :confused:

Telephone and BB telecom xtra about $120 a month. For that we have 2 lines, faxability line, voicemail and call forwarding etc and the top speed BB with bells. That includes calls but we rarely use the 'proper' phone, about $5-10 a month max. Telstraclear has been advertising a lot though here, we'll be sticking with Telecom.

Water comes through the tap, didn't know I could choose a company but it's included in our rent.

Car and house contents with State. 2 litre hot hatch, inc roadside rescue with full UK no claims $490 annually and they were excellent when some twonk reversed into me.

For $90,000 of contents with specific items listed and full Uk no claims, our premium is $360. We have an alarm. It's cheaper if we do both with State and I get Flybuys too. I arranged it all over the phone, cover was immediate. Anytime I have called them their service has been very good. I shopped around and they were the best price.

Good luck with the new house. Mt Victoria seems like a real nice place to be and when we finally get our visa, we hope to find somewhere near around Mt Victoria...alas the prices are scaring us a bit though.
