If you're used to putting your outgoing mail in your front mailbox for the mailman to pick up (like I was in the US) it doesn't work like that in NZ. Outgoing mail has to be dropped off at a special post box or the post office. Found that one out today.

Forgive me if that's posted somewhere else here, but I thought I'd save somebody the 2 days of leaving a letter in the box waiting for it to go... like I did.:o

Never mind...look on the good side....if you'd have been in the UK....it would have gone up in smoke by now ;)

 Thanks Jess, made me chuckle though.

Did you know that if you plan on going away and don't want to leave your mail piling up in the little titchy box, you can fill in a form at your local post office and they will hold on to your mail for the time you are away and deliver it on the 1st day you are back.

And it's free. :clap:clap and it works.

Thanks Smiler - that bit for while you're away is just the same as in the US, so should be fine. It's just the sending mail to others that's different I guess. Now I know why the postman can come around on just a bicycle - he's not picking up anything to go!

Jess, you made me chuckle too.. in UK the mail goes in a special box or into a post office too, so it was no different for us.

Smiler, thanks for the reminder I need to go get a form...

Good info there! Although I don't think I would have even considered not going to the post box, normal thing to do here in UK, although it is easy to catch collections now, gone are the days of multiple collections, just aim for the end of the day - the electronic age is telling.....
