Hello all
As we now officially have PR in principal ( just to pay migrant levy / residence visa) I was wondering when we start getting removal quotes & thinking about NZ bank accounts etc ?
what did anyone else do ?
its funny how anxieties change with the process ....
TIA

Yes, this is a good one.
I am planning to start things like the bank accounts as soon as we get PR. (Everything crossed as I say that!)
Things like shipping once we are sure of our timescales. Until property is sold we have no idea of when we are going. :wah

We started looking at shipping costs along with the costs for medicals and police checks etc, at the begining as we wanted to have a rough idea how much the whole moving to NZ would be.
We have accepted an offer on our house and have the medicals booked for 11/5/06. Our thinking is if we don't get the invitation to apply we can cancel the medical appointment pull out of the house move. (we have everything crossed)

Just before you get PR lol.
Seriously, as soon as you can, in the next few months, you're going to get bogged down with other things, do the things you can do now. You don't need a residence visa to apply for a bank account but it does help. All our kiwibank stuff was done on our UK address, we just have to change the details to an NZ address when we arrive.
I've done my banking and my shipping is sorted, now I'm just worrying about the packing and what to leave/take.
Good luck!

The more you can do in advance the better I'd say. It's amazing how everything takes up so much time and to have a list of jobs done and sorted is satisfying.
If you can get all the little jobs like bank accounts out the way, you can get stuck into the big stuff, packing, sorting and clearing.
As soon as we put our ITA in I did shipping quotes etc. The quotes hold for 3 months barring oil prices rises.:wah
Good luck

I've gone with Kiwibank, but I hear ASB are easier for transfers

we opened one with the National bank, it was a freephone number and it was real simple, just waiting for conformation in the post.
We wanted to open a Joint account, and 'Bobby' said I'll check its ok to do this (he wasnt sure, but I said that Rob was here so he could take his details personally if it was a problem)
any way Bobby took my details first then spoke briefly to Rob. (won't it be funny if the account says Mrs K L & Mr R Smith!!... as our UK one says R& KL Smith ;) Rob wasn't amused when I pointed this out - serve him right for not wanting to do the boring stuff! :laugh
