If you are going out on a Work Visa do you need to get your qualifications assessed by NZQA?
If you don't will there be implications when you eventually want to apply for PR? (Points wise)
I am posting this for a friend as I have no idea about work visas
Any help please!

Surely the extra points you would get for having the job and woek experience in NZ, would mean you could still apply without having to go through NZQA.
Kev has 115 with the job offer, age, experience but no quals.

OH is a welder, and initially we were going to apply in 2003 before the change when the requirement was 29 points. We had his qual assessed then, but were unable to apply and then everything changed so it lapsed. When we decided to try again we came over with the intention of OH looking for a job, and he got one. We then applied for his work visa and he took along all of his work experience letters and his certificates but we were not asked at the time to have them assessed. We have recently applied for (and recieved) PR, and with his work experience and job offer and the fact that he had been working for 18 months we had 145 points and recieved PR in 3 weeks for the ITA being recieved by NZIS. I didnt bother to claim points for his quals because we didnt need them, points wise, and I wanted to try to get away without having the expense of getting them assessed again. HOWEVER, I did tell my case officer that we had an expired assessment and included it with all my documentation that I sent to her. I have no idea whether this will have made any difference, but I did not claim points for them.
