Hi All

I have been lurking for a while, reading these tremendous threads  thanks for the fab info. I'm married to a Kiwi and lived in NZ for 2 years from 1995. We are hoping to return to NZ in Feb 2005 - this all depends if our house sale goes through smoothly :? We are slap bang in the middle of a sale and waiting for the survey to be done next week and then the exchange. It can't come quickly enough!

We actually lived in AKL before, but would like to go back and live in Chch. We want somewhere smaller and less crowded and we can't wait.

Moorf - your messages are fantastic and full of great info. As they are all about Chch, reading them makes me wish I was there now!

I hope to be able to contribute on this site.

Thanks

Carol

Hi Carol

No I'm not - I wish I was tho - they must be LOADED :laugh We took our little boy to see them in concert here in London quite a few years ago, it was excellent! I think they had a huge night the night before, they all looked hungover, and they kept running to the side to have huge glasses of water! It was classic!

cheers

Hi Wiggles

I'm the opposite to you - I'm the Kiwi married to an Englishman! We're hoping to move to Auckland next year sometime - house sale and all permitting! Did I see you live in Chislehurst (South-East London?). If so, we're just down the road from you in Bromley!! I'll be interested in how well your house sale goes. Houses still seem to be selling fairly quickly around here.

Hi Debs

Yes, we just around the corner  Our house sold very quickly - in 4 days. We were absolutely over the moon. But, as we all know, it can all fall over at any time prior to exchange. We are living on tenterhooks at the moment, but it does all seem to be going through. We are expecting the survey to be done next week and then the exchange date. We are hanging out for this - it does seem to be the point of no return from there. :hopeso

I'll keep you posted. Where in AKL will you head for? We originally lived in Titirangi and then moved to Mt Eden.

Hi Wiggles, welcome. Hope all goes well with your house sale :hopeso
Partly watched TheWiggles with my daughters this morning (on Nick Jr), and like always - I do wonder about these guys!!! Wonder what kind of 'juice' they're on to be so totally mad. Can imagine their live show was great fun.

Best of luck with your plans

Hi Babette

Thanks for the wishes. I know what you mean about the Wiggles - nutters! I've got a really good Aussie friend and she told me that Anthony (a few years ago) made it to No. 1 of Australia's most Eligible Batchelors!

I must admit, I would run around like a mad thing if I was earning all that money :laugh

Thanks for the good wishes for our house sale - very trying times! Oh well, we know we are not alone and plenty of others are going through exactly the same thing.

Thanks again

Hi again

I've lived in Massey, Whenuapai, Mt Roskill, Onehunga and my parents are in Massey - but we're looking to move north to Whangaparoa. Just a little bit more rural but still close to the city.
Glad to hear your house sold so quickly - :hopeso hope it all goes smoothly for you now. Wish we were that far along the line. I'm still in the process of getting citizenship sorted (for the kids) and passports and visas for hubby!! And we're tied into our mortgage for another year anyway :wah .

Hi Debs

Whangaparoa - stunning. It's really lovely there. I can imagine how you must be wishing the time away - we've been coasting here in the UK for a few years. Our plan was always to go back, but my husband had a really good job here. It was very difficult to walk away from it. The decision was made for us - the bank is closing down. We decided to make the move - really it was a case of 'if we don't do it now, we never will'! We really want a different way of life for our little boy (8) - we want him to climb trees and run around like a mad thing outside. I want him to surf and we all want to ski :uhoh (could be ugly!!)

This all happened in May, and it seems to have taken forever to reach this point. I must admit we are making the most of our last months here. I will miss it.

Let us know how it goes for you. I am sure you will not have trouble selling up - our estate agent said that houses are still selling very quickly here.

Hi Wiggles.

Your house sold in 4 days ????????????? Blooming heck - you lucky devil. Ours has been up 5 weeks, had 5 folks come to look at it, was in the paper again last night and still not a dicky bird .... driving me mad. We wanted to be in NZ for Xmas but that is now a fantasy. We'll be there as early in the new year as house sale permits.

Well done you - and welcome to the forum. Stop lurking !! Start posting !!

All the best.

Hi Diny

I know - 4days - that's why I can't stop myself thinking something is bound to go wrong. It can't be this easy. I'm driving my DH nuts - I'm usually an extremely positive person - but I'm turning paranoid! I must admit one thing in our favour is we are zoned for two exceptionally good schools. The people who have bought the house have a 3 yr old son, and their first words were 'is this zoned for ....'. I think that's what swung it really.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with your house. Is it your EA? Our EA told us that 80%ish of their business comes from hits on their website. Is your house advertised on the web? Give your EA's a boot up the bum! I do wish you all the luck in the world though - I hope you get your sale soon, preferably a cash buyer! Please let us know how you get on.

Promise - no more lurking, and more posting. :laugh

Wiggle, nice to see you here, I'm still suffering the anxiety of house sale. Can you believe it's only 5 weeks in? I can't think about another five weeks ahead - it already feels like five months of standing on the edge of a precipice - a very scary place. We've done all we can, so just have to hang on in there. I don't even like talking about it, just trying to get through everyday one day at a time, as I don't want to tempt fate.

We were hoping to be able to go before Xmas but have now set our sights a bit further on and are now just going for a holiday over New Year instead. It helps to have that to look forward to at least.

So far the estate agent has delivered all they promised (apart from a buyer for our house). It's advertised regularly in the press, has a very prominant position in their local branch window, and they give all the right answers when I get one of my mates to call them pretending to be interested. Alas - they don't advertise on the internet. We're re-thinking the situation and may change agents to enable us to get some 'cyber coverage'.

It will sell one day .... all it takes is that one person. We're loathed to lower the price (we feel it is worth more than it's on the market for anyway) - and of course, every pound we reduce the less dollars we have the other end.

So - onward and upward, not getting disheartened (liar) and will sit and wait until the day all hell lets loose.

Might be worth a try with www.thelittlehousecompany.co.uk where you can sell your house privately for about £125 and they put the listing on rightmove.co.uk which is the biggest property site in the country I believe.

As these people are not agencies you can use this alongside your existing estate agent (check the small print on your EA agreement though)

We had a couple of viewers from this although we didn't sell in the end for other reasons

Good luck!

Paul

Thanks for that, it's very kind of you. I will read through the small print on our listing with the estate agent and then I may just go ahead with putting it with these folks - nothing ventured nothing gained.

I'm not in any minimum contract period with our agents, neither am I in a sole agency agreement so i may just be OK.

Thanks again

Hi everyone

Thanks very much for the welcome. I've had a great time reading all the threads on here.

Lil - nice to hear from you. 5 weeks - I can't believe how quickly the time is flying. We're just over 3 weeks into the sale - things are very quiet at present. I believe the solicitors are doing searches etc, and then next week we expect the surveyor round. Hope he doesn't find anything. :hopeso Good luck and please keep us updated on your progress

Diny - good luck. It's a really awful thing - selling a house. It is very stressful. I really wish you all the best and hope that things start to move for you. Paul's idea sounds like a good one - let us know.

Jes - thanks for that. Hope to contribute at least something interesting in time

Cheers

Actually folks, this site that Paul told me about seems pretty good. For those out there on the forum who - like me - are getting stressed because their house isn't selling, it may be worth while having a look. For a one off payment they keep advertising your house until it sells.

www.thelittlehousecompany.co.uk

Karl/Douglas ..... I hope this doesn't go against the rules - I'm not exactly advertising this site, I just think it may be of some use to forum members.

By the way - our house is property 04926 if you fancy having a look.
