I folks
I'm sure if I looked hard enough I'd find the answer on this forum, but being bone idle I thought I'd just ask again.
I have a Kiwi spouse who is sponsoring my PR. Have applied for police check, had medical last week (me & our 2 sons). As soon as all paperwork gets back to me I will hand deliver my application to NZ House (I just don't want to trust Royal Mail with all those documents).
Do any of you know 'approximately' how long the application will take? I'm getting mixed info ranging from a couple of weeks to 12 months !!
I know it's like asking how long is a piece of string but some kind of indication would be a big help. Just about to put the house on the market but don't want to if our PR visas don't land on my doormat for many months.

I sponsored Hubby as I am the Kiwi. The children have both passports so it was only Hubby who applied. Got ours back in 1 month 1 day from posting the forms etc. They did say 3-5 months though and some peoples have been taking that long!

Thanks Tanya ... that's alot better than 'up to a year'.

We handed our partnership PR application in at NZ house on 29 July and heard about 3 weeks later that we had approval. Much quicker than we were expecting. I finally got the stamp in my passport on 25 August - Less than a month in all. It pays to put together as much info as you can and get friends/family to write supporting letters.
Good luck :nice1

Thanks for that Matt.
Letters from friends/family? Obviously from NZ but what kind of letters? Ones stating that they know me or something like that.
We've been married for 15 years so I can 'prove' the partnership is genuine.

It was slightly different for us as we haven't been married for that long, though we have lived together for several years. It says very clearly on the form that the onus is on the applicant to prove that the relationship is genuine. From what we've heard, a marriage certificate isn't sufficient, but if you add in things like evidence of living together, joint holidays, joint financial commitments, children etc. then it's fine.
We sent in 8 letters from friends and family (in the UK and NZ) stating that we were in a geniune relationship, how long they'd known us, how well they knew us, how long we'd been together etc. just to make sure they got the point at the NZIS!

I handed in my partership PR application at the beginning of April. I was told that less was more, or more importantly quality over quantity!!
i gave them; marriage certificate, council tax bills, joint bank statements, tenancy aggreements, and wage slips. All showing that my wife and I had been together for at least the 2 year period. They didn't want any photos etc if I could help it.
I realise not everyone will have this evidence, so in that case you would need the extras.
I told them I was not in a major hurry, and so waited 3 months to get my visas. However this was only due to them waiting for my NZ police check (as had spent a year out there). When it arrived I had my visa the next day. It helps if you can take it in as they can tell you if something drastic is missing. Plus if you can pick it up this saves time.
It took about 3 weeks for my UK police check to come back, a month for the aussie one, and a week for the medical results ( which incidently did not have to be sealed).
Hope this helps
