We are currently living in South Wales (UK) and have been considering relocation for some time now.

A few of our friends have already made the move and have fallen in love with the countries simplicity of life and natural beauty. :raebanana

On the strength of this, we have booked to come out for a good look around in September this year, and are planning to fly into Christchurch and traveling up to Aukland.

Having seen so much good press written by people who have made the move we were wondering about the bad press if there is any?

Has anyone had any bad experiences of the country? :uhoh

There's lots of posts which state good and bad points, all are very helpful. Have you been on britishexpats.com - there's loads of negative posts on there!! I find it very negative reading, alot of whinging, but if you want to read it...... Anyway, everyone's situation and outlook on life is different. Good luck with your decision, as everyone says, you can always come back :nice1

Welcome to the forum. I too am from South Wales and will be making the move as soon as house sale allows. Where exactly are you?

The negatives are certainly out there if you look at some of the old threads. I don't think you can expect it to be perfection and in my opinion it will depend what you are looking to gain from going to live in NZ.

We know we will be financially worse off than we are at the moment BUT and it's a big but, firmly believe we will give our children a better quality of life than they have now. I don't know if this will be the case but the whole thing for us as a family is a great adventure and we are all really looking forward to it.

We currently living in a quiter part of Newport having moved from Penarth a couple oy years ago to escape the Chavs!!! Where are you based?

The main reason we want to move if for a better quality of life. It feels as if everything around us here is slowly spiralling out of control, maybe it's just us but thats how we feel :confused:

We have looked at a couple of countries but there seems to be too many language barriers. The thought of going so far afield seems quite daunting..but you only live once so you have to make the most of it..sounds a bit deep :yes

You mentioned the next Wales meet, what is it...do you know when it is?

We live in Machen, just outside Caerphilly. You seem to have the same feelings as us. I don't know when the next meet will be but will let you know.
