After a WHOLE year of struggling to get txt messages through to friends in the UK using Telecom I've given up.
Paid (another) $99 for a Vodafone prepay today and the first txt I sent to my little bruv got straight through without any problem at all.
Telecom?
bah humbug!
Beware!!!

I think I read that Telecom don't have the right relationships with other networks to get messages through to most other users, apart from themselves! Bog all use to us lot though eh?
We went straight for a Vodafone PAYG and its been fine, messages to UK & Oz flying about quite happily...

Yep it's to do with the net work paths and the tie ins with Uk co's. There the extent of my copius knowledge on the subject ends. :p
However we have a telecom and vodafone and my messages always get through and OH's don't. :D

All depends on the agreements the networks have with each other. Vodafone is pretty flexible, TNZ isn't by the sound of it. There are other issues though, about call termination costs, which is basically how much one network will charge another to send a call to their network. There has been an issue in the UK over this with OFCOM getting involved - unfair etc...... so maybe TNZ don't want to be getting shafted with all that nonsense.

Luckily never had a problem sending text messages through to the UK with my telecom mobile. Although it seems my hubbie hardly receives my text messages on his vodafone :roll either that your he's ignoring them :D

I'm with Vodafone NZ and get charged 17 cents to text the UK or NZ. I don't have any text bundles.
However my son says he is charged 40 pence per text to NZ with O2, it isn't part of his text bundle. He didn't receive my texts when I was using Telecom NZ

When i rang Telecom to complain - I got to speak to a Canadian service person....
She said even when she herself was texting her son in Canada approximately 1 in 20 texts got through. Just the way it is.
Not for me I'm afraid....that just stinks considering how much they want to do it.

I live in Canada and the first thing I did when I got my cell plan was to disable texting. It is so undependable and I have to pay for every one that comes in (based on the very basic plan I have).
I'm just an old guy who would rather talk to someone for 20 seconds than spend 5 minutes trying to type it into a phone with my delicate little thumbs.
My phone plan is only $10/month, but has no minutes. I pay for each and every call I make/receive. It's an emergency phone. Are cell phones used with great frequency NZly or is the land line still king?
