Hey guys
I dont post that much but I need some advice. We want to move out to NZ around September next year. We haven't submitted our EOI yet so we are still in the dream stage. My question is: Is there a limit on timings between the different stages on this emotional journey? If our EOI is selected is there a time limit between the selection and us submitting whatever it is we have to do next? We dont want to have to apply more than once or get ont he road and stuff it up. Another question actually is how much does it cost roughly to go through the whole process from EOI to PR?
One last question: which is better Auckland or Christchurch?
Any thoughts you have about the process would be welcome.

Hi Tash
I'm rusty on the timings but I'm sure someone will say if I've got it wrong.
Once your EOI is selected you have to wait for NZIS to issue the ITA. I think ours was about 8 weeks. Then you have four months from the issue of your ITA to get the ITA back to them with all the docs and evidence required. It's good to get as much as you can prepared like birth certs, know which doctors you want to use, have your police forms ready to send etc.
Once you send your ITA back you have the long wait for them to process that. If you are granted PR, you get 6 months to pay your migrant levy and a year to arrive and acitvate your visa, so you can hang this bit out for up to 18 months.
One last question: which is better Auckland or Christchurch?
Wellington :D
No seriously, if I had to choose between the 2 it would be Christchurch. It depends what you want from the place you will be living and working in.

What ! not another debate again :laugh
My initial thought is that you research on the jobs in both places, not unless you are one of those lucky people who could live anywhere e.g. tradesman or nurse.
Next, you think about the weather and temperature.
Christchurch is closer to what you have in UK, whereas Auckland is humid (more rain and sunshine including winter* time)
* avg temp is 15 deg, it is a transition from autumn to spring (coming from Europe, we feel like a bad summer)
Then, you think about space and house.
How much land do you want?
Christchurch will offer you more land and house for your monies.
Having said that, you could buy lifestyle block outside Auckland and take a train to work (a lot of Aucklanders are doing this)
If job is not a issue, that is, you could live anywhere.................
How about considering other cities?
(NZIS is encouraging people to live outside Auckland and you got bonus point for doing so)
Good Luck with your EOI and emigration plan.
:cheers

Thanks Smiler and Singel. It's alot to think about. To be honest we will starting a family as soon as we arrive. We have decided to put it off until we move basically. My boyfriend will be looking for land surveying jobs and I have the world at my feet or at least that is how it feels! At the moment I am a trainer and project manager. I have a background in drama though. Once in NZ I want to do some tv presenting (for kids), I want to train as counsellor and start my own business importing African goods and making silver jewellery. I'm realsistic that all of these will take alot of work and to fulfill my dreams will take til I am 100! In between that we hope to be able to adopt our second child. I would also like to get involved in fostering too.
Alex loves cold weather and I like hot weather. But we want lots of space for our kids to grow up in. I just wanted other people's opinions to take into consideration. At the end of the day we make the decisions and we wont hold anyone responsible for their opinion!
Have a nice sunday guys, it's really sunny here in Cardiff.

It is a lot to think about but you sound like you have plenty of options and enough to keep you busy until you are 200, never mind 100. :D
If OH's job is the main breadwinner sounds like the plan is to get that sorted first. You might come to blows on the weather though. :laugh:laugh

I kinda intend to win!! If I have to wait on the children front then I should get the weather right? :0)
In the first place we have to get out there. So Iguess we can always move once we finally arrive. Aren't the rules that you have to stay in your job for six months if it is part of your PR offer? Then as long as you inform the correct people you can change it and move on?

Hi Natasha and WELCOME to the forum.
Have a look for a post by Juniper, titled 'A walk through the Immigration Programme' and it lists everything you may initially need to know. It's a brilliant post IMHO !
Any questions at any time, just fire away and I'm sure someone will have the answer.

Not that near! Machen. It's about 1/2 way between Newport and Cardiff. We are heading off to Hawkes Bay. What about you?

No really sure. Was thinking Auckland, then Alex said we could consider Christchurch but I dont wanna go south it's colder there! I like the thought of some real warm weather. Wanna reccommend somewhere? I'm so open to opinions, it's unbelievable! Do you have kids?

Yes I have 2 boys, Matt 12 and Tom 9. We chose Hawkes Bay as it has some of the best weather in NZ. We are quite lucky that jobs don't dictate our location. At the end of the day we only spent 3 weeks looking around and never made it to the SI. Suppose we may end up somewhere else eventually if we find Hawke Bay too quiet..... don't think we will though! :D
