Hi Everybody:

Although this is my first post here, I have been browsing the site for a while. Very informative and helpful. Thank you all.

We are based on US and planning (or more like considering) to move to New Zealand. We mean me, my wife and a 2-year old daugther.

I received a job offer from a research company. The offer is one of their top research managerial postions. The company is flying me over there next week to do final negotiaiton. In addtion, on april 26th our EOI got selected (prior to the job offer).

I have certain worries. This is regarding medical condtions. Both me and my wife have well controlled high blood pressure and have to take medication. Our BMIs around 32. Additonally my blood sugar is on the borderline. However, very well controlled. Our question is whether this will be a big impedement towards getting the PR approved. I know we can always get a one year work visa. However, we do not want to move unless there is no chance to get the PR. Because we will then loose our PR in the US.

If anybody has any experiacne, could you please share with us? Any suggestions will be helpful to take an informed decision.

Thanks again

TBH as long as anything is well controlled, and you doctor doing the medical says so, then I don't think it should be a problem

The BMI thing - they are only worried if it's over 35 IIRC

So I reckon you should be absolutely fine!

Esparton, I am in a similar situation to you. I am currently under U.S. PR and I am debating whether I want to go for NZ PR right away or go to NZ under the working holiday visa and then apply for PR if I like it there.

Where in the US do you live? I am in Florida.

Hi Esparton

If it helps put your mind at rest, there are some threads on medicals and results under the immigration medicals thread.

Good luck next week with the negotiations etc.

Where are you heading for in NZ?

Howdy! I had to chime in here!

Texas! Where abouts? I just moved over from Austin to Wellington so let me know if you need some Tx to NZ comparisons. Just be prepared for MUCH cooler weather!

On the medical stuff, my hubby has blood pressure and cholesterol issues. My caveat is to make sure your meds are covered on the formulary over here and bring at least a 3-month supply to give yourself time to work it out. Evidently, Lipitor is only used in extreme cases and for very short times. I think I found the formulary on the Ministry of Health website but I'll look and post the link.

As far as PR, they didn't even ask since the doctors said he was alright.
