I am sure it is on here somewhere but for just for those of you that don't know (as I didn't until this morning) - if you are entering NZ without a work permit or PR but intend to get the relevant paperwork you will have to pay international studetns fees for your kids to go to school (these vary greatly) until you have the students visa. However, there is a 28 day period where your kids can go so school as normal without the fees after which time if you don't have the required paperwork you have to start paying fees (by the term but weeks a refunded once paperwork is in place) or remove your kids.

Can I ask - where did you get this info from? My own experience from a 6 month trip to Auckland is that the school advised us 'everyone is entitled to a free term'. At the time we didn't know anything about anything and rather than rock the boat we said thanks very much and got a free term. We were on visitor's visas, stayed 2 terms and paid for the second one. I cannot find anything on any website confirming this and started to wonder whether it was just the school being nice .. Just to complicate things even further - a while ago I did find a reference to this 'free period' which my husband says was detailed as '3 months' but now I can't find it!

Has anyone else any experience of this?

I got that info from 2 seperate primary schools in Torbay. They have said that the 28 days is a legal thing and thereafter it is at the discretion on the school as to cost or fees etc etc x

Thanks for the reply - 28 days is better than nothing I suppose!

We're intending to head out to Auckland in September - (visa or no!) and I also have a daughter due to start secondary school this year as well as a 6 year old who was only old enough for kindy last time we were there.
