Hi,
Just a little case of nerves.
It may just be a constant stream of adrenalin, I'm not certain.
Still much packing and organising to do. No date booked for pick up. Flights are booked, friends on the ready for place to stay when we arrive in Auckland. Internal flights all booked. Financial matters over here all done, just the months wages to be added. Restaurant booked for final Friday night booze up and chow down with family. Wife UK naturalisation application not finished (you think nz immigration are slow!! Try doing it the other way at the same time!)
We've got plans upto Christmas, but then who knows. We are visiting a few places for a week at atime, just to look at prices/areas/houses/flats/jobs etc on the ground. We've got Auckland , Nelson , Christchurch , Wellington , Tauranga , New Plymouth all on our list. We will see what each has to offer hopefully!
I've been to all these places before, but at the time I was in tourist mode, so it's not the same.
It seems most of you have jobs to go to. Not sure if this is because you are all very efficient, or mainly a consequence of the new immigration process favouring people with jobs.
Although I think with 6 weeks before christmas, I will have plenty of time to set up interviews etc when I get there.
I was speaking to someone about it last night, and they seemed surprised I was going with so much up in the air.
I suppose having a kiwi wife, and having lived in Auckland for 9 months previously I'm fairly confident and not concerned about having everything sorted.
I'm just rambling really, but any thoughts would be welcome.
We have no house to sell over here, as it was always our intention to return once my course had finished and we'd saved some money up. I've always moved about, and over the last ten years, have lived in many places, so that part doesn't bother me.
I think it's just the finality. I know it's not final, we can always come back (ie wife's application for UK passport), but We have no intention of doing so, no matter what occurs over there.

Hi Radders

No wonder you're rambling :laugh Only 2 weeks to go. Don't worry, we went back to AKL in 1995 for a couple of years and we had no jobs to go to. Of course, we had family to stay with, but within a month both of us had jobs.

I am sure you'll be fine. At least you can look forward to some warm weather and all the places you'll be visiting sound great.

We're heading to Chch in Jan - we're a little unsettled as the family are all in AKL. Oh well, we want the quiet-ish life.....

Good luck to you and let us know how it goes.

Cheers

Ride it out, move from pillar to "post" (get it post) its like being in the forum - going from this one to that one, taking in the sights (no sounds yet, maybe one for Karl & Douglas).

We've never been and its taken us 6 months to uproot ourselves, Linda has a job but I'm gonna play the employment field when i get in Auckland, and its a confidence thing I'm sure you'd agree.

Enjoy 2 weeks in the uk but Live the rest in New Zealand :nice1

Radders, if it is any comfort you are not the only one going out without a job. I have just packed in my nice comfy IT job of 12 years, 60k a year, final salary pension, company car, 5 bed house in nice village sold and have no job to go to. It will either turn out to be a VERY expensive holiday or the start of a new life. We arrive in NZ on the 6th Nov.

My wife is a kiwi too so at least we will have help and support from family and friends. It does seem rather daunting giving up everything I have worked for for the last 20 years. Out of my comfort zone big time!

Richard

A brave step you've taken, I think that stepping out of your comfort zone would be a massive under statement.

I take my hat off to you and your family .... good luck.
