Just completed our EOI and came out with 135 points...just short of the 140 :roll

We are in a bit of a dilemma as to whether to submit it now or wait till we go out in September to see if we can find a job/s just to tip the balance.

Or whether we have missed the 5 points somewhere along the line :(

We are both degree qualified, my partner is the main applicant as his skills are in a skill shortage area, with 9 years work experience.

Can anyone offer any advice :D

Check out the most recent EOI draw. We were recently selected with only 125 points (and a key number of those were for work experience in an area of shortage).. you may already be in better shape than you realize:

The points required in order to submit an EOI is still 100, it's just that since Dec 05 the NZIS decided to operate on a sliding scale, 140 points being an automatic selection.

In this last selection, some EOI's were selected with 100 points.

Like W.Oregonian suggests, have a look at NZIS website....think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck.

Looked on NZIS site and could not find any indication of costs...I might be having a blonde moment :p

Where do you live?

We are in UK and it cost about £140 (I think !! )

You will find a list of charges on NZIS....just can't remember where !!

Now, what did I do with that peroxide??........ ;)

We are in the UK too in South Wales.

If it is around £140.00 I think we will go for it.

I guess it's a small price to pay for a new life. :o

When your finger stops shaking and you press the 'submit' button on your EOI, the next page is the payment page and all the relevant costings and ways to pay are there.

There's a distant bell ringing in my head that is saying that they accept credit, but not debit cards......dunno,maybe I'm wrong.

I'm polishing my bananas in readiness for your 'We've been Selected' thread.

Just make sure before you send it that you can prove everything (via documentation etc) that you have claimed points for in your EOI, cos that will be the next step when your ITA arrives. You have 4 months in which to submit your ITA so you don't want to start a game of 'running out of time'

Go on - do it......you know you want to......LOL

I've recorded our EoI as £116.60 from February...it may have gone up/ I might be wrong. I was in a similar position to you 135 points, skills shortage area etc.

If you do not get selected first time you stay in the pool (no extra cost) for six months. We got through first time. It is a bit of a lottery - but "you have to be in it to win it" ! It is a loaded lottery, though and the scales are tipped well in your favour. If you lok at the selections from previous months, you'll see that loads get selected with fewer than 140, but with shortage skills. In that category you are "top of the pile" with 135 points.

Go for it.

Yeah, I'd say definitely go for it, you have a VERY good chance of being selected, and even if you aren't now, as was said earlier, you stay in the pool for 6 months, and who knows, they may change the selection goalposts again soon!

We submitted ours last week (and were selected 2 days later yeahhhhhh!)The cost is NZ$300, so the actual cost in £££ will vary depending on your credit card companies exchange rate at the time. We think it will come out just over £100.

Go on put it in you may be pleasently surprised!

Welcome to the forum by the way! ;)

We submitted our EOI in April and bill came back recently and it was £106.23

Submit and go for it - I bet you get selected - cost was £140 for me and yes obviously it's exchange rate dependent.

BTW - if you are worrying about £140 now, you will be blown away once you get down track and have to pay for meds, x-rays, full application fees, shipping fees etc - so I'd suggest just pay - and try not to think about it !

And you couldn't possibly live without them......I know just how you feel.

We have a 9 year old boxer bitch who couldn't stand the journey. We've had her since she was 12 months old and for some reason unknown to us, she hates the car. Trembles every time she goes in it - even though she's going to a 'nice' place and not the vets !!

The thought of leaving her behind is heartbreaking, but the journey to NZ would kill her.

WEll done, great news. Once you get your ITA, you will have to pay for police checks (one each adult) medicals, x-rays, blood tests, then the cost of the ITA which was £550 when we did it last year. Then you have to find the migrant levy once you successful. So as you can see it adds up. Let's just hope it is worth it!

Oh, have a word with Steve, Cardiff Irons. I put him on to our doctor up in Manchester becaus the cost of the medicals down in Wales were astronomical at the time. Worth shopping around, don't just go for the nearest one. Steve and Hil had a trip to Manchester, made a day out of it.

Hi there!
I noticed your signature.. it shows EOI selected May 29.. then EOI selected.. pending.. was your EOI selected for the May 29 selection date? Coz we submitted ours for the same selection date... and it seems we weren't selected yet... hope you dont mind my asking.. but once your EOI gets selected.. what should show under the STATUS column... Submitted with a date entry under the Date Selected Column... or should it show SELECTED under Status with the date specified as well?
How early did you find out that you're selected?
How many points did you have and how long did you have to wait before being selected? Did you get selected on the date that you were submitting for?
Good for you :)

Hi W & G
We submitted our EOI on the 18th for the original draw on the 24th, which was delayed until the 25th..then delayed again till the 29th May 2006. When we logged in to the site yesterday we had a "Congratulations you have been selected" message. Our status in the status colum has changed to SELECTED with no date.
We have 135 points in a skilled shortage area.
I know it takes a few weeks now so they can do some initial checks on our EOI, I think we then get an e-mail telling us that everything is ok, followed by a ITA pack.

Last time I looked they had not updated the rest of the site so prehaps some people are still in the process of being notified.

How many points did you have?

Hope this helps. :)

Congratulations H & Rick - it all starts now!!!

The basic checks on our EOI only took a week so you may have that ITA sooner than you think. Get going on medicals and police checks - they take longer than you might imagine!!!

Congratulations, great feelong seeing that little 'status selected' message!!

Police checks take 40 days (ours were a couple of days short about 37) so get them sent off now, and start organising the paper work you know you will definately need to prove, quals, work exp, birth certs, marriage cert, evidence of living together over last 12 months, so that you can turn the ITA around quickly.

the ride continues...................

:cheers Well done, a tad jealous.

Can I ask what you do, I submitted our EOI with 120 in a skills shortage area, how did you get 135 points, any suggestions to increase mine would be most welcomed. If I got a job this would take me well over points scale.

H & Rick

Hi Angie & Mike

I think we got most of our points from the qualification and work experience area. The OH, who was the main applicant is a Electronic Design Engineer/Computer programmer with 10 year experience on the job. We also managed to scrape 10 points for my degree and the usual age points (30-39).

What do you do?
When did you submit your EOI?

I notice from the fact sheet on the NZIS website that only 113 applicants were selected without job offers, I'm sure there was a lot more last time.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and my bananas to hand :D
