After what seems like years of teetering on the egde of go or not to go I took the big brave step of telling hubby we should just bite the bullet and go on the visitors visa and look for work and apply for pr when there.
We have told family and friends, have just accepted an offer from a cash buyer (house only on market 3 days) , are handing our notices in next week and fly out 28th August before eldest starts secondary school.
I feel slightly punch drunk.
I don't know what the future holds for us, NZ or UK. Maybe we'll be back maybe we won't. It is a big step and a trickiest way of doing it I know but although the decision was scary I have found that once I closed my eyes and jumped I feel better that a decision has been made.
Phew! North Shore here we come.

Isn't it funny that knowing you're going to take a leap can actually feel better than not know what you're going to decide. I hope all goes well for you!! :D

Good on you Nanny !!!! Well done for having the b***s to give it a go. Like you say, who knows what the future may hold - NZ or UK - whichever it'll be, you'll have found out for yourselves. You are an inspriation to others.

Well done - go for it!
I think coming over before your child starts secondary school is a good move too - my eldest found it difficult having done 6 months at secondary in UK and then having to go 'backwards' into Intermediate School for a year. Good luck with the move.

Good for you.
If we had struggled trying to get the C&G's like you did, well we would have taken the same route and just gone for it too.
Go for it and best of luck.
Keep us updated won't you......

Nannyogg. Its great to here your going to just sell up and go. We have been thinking about doing the same. Ste has started e mailing firms to try and get a job offer but he is away working all week and sat at the comp all weekend and we feel our progress is very slow. we have 4 children the oldest starts high school in sept and i really do think it would be better to go before then. I can't wait for Ste to come home on friday and read your post. All the very best to you. Tracy.

All the very best, we were on the verge of doing the same, but luckily the paperwork for the job offer came through.
Hope everything goes to plan, keep in touch and let us know how things work out, the good, bas and ugly, (we like to know it all!! ;) )

I am not saying what we are doing is right or will even work but you sound in a very similar position to us. And it was the start of secondary school this September that gave us the final push. I am so excited and at the same time sick with fright! Please feel free to PM me and we have a chat if you like.
BTW where are you now and where are you heading?

Pardon me for asking if it sounds silly, doesn't the academic new term for high school start in Feb each year, just like Year 1 to 8? I'm asking because I got 3 kids who will be in Year 3, 8 & 9 in 2007 & I'm timing my move to NZ to coincide with the Feb school re-opening. Please correct me if I need to make some adjustments to my moving date.
Thanks,

I think Nanny is referring to the start of the school year in the Uk. Wouldn't want my kids to go through the upheavel of starting high school here for a few weeks then moving, so good plan!!! :nice1
You are right that the new school year in NZ starts in Feb 'edmundt'

Yep we are doing this too....my boys are staying here while they finish their final exams/ end of year at college.
then they have the holidays with their mates.....(as Jason said, this Last Summer at the end of the GCSE year is probably the last time that the group of friends that they make going through school will be together as a whole...many go to different colleges/out to work/move and they will gradually loose touch - as did my eldest lad with his school friends. Any how he said they will have a blast camping etc and then when they are about to start their new college courses etc....he will fly to NZ and have 3 mths to sort out what he wants to do with his education.)
So hopefully the boys will have a good summer, and then fly out to NZ in Spring!
but I will miss them....
Kat
