Hi all ,
We got an offer : fully furnished apt all utilities paid , and 40 K yearly + incentive program .
Is that a good offer , is it possible to live on this as a family of 4 ?
What about taxes , health and pension , how does this work in NZ (well taxes i know)
Thank you
Marco

Congratulations!!!!!!
The money is not a lot, but assuming you want to live in an appartement and it is a very decent one without any cost: you should be fine.
It will not be enough for a flashy lifestyle, but you will definitely survive on this. In which area is it and what kind of job are you going to do? Of course the cost of living is higher in the city than outside, so that will make a difference as well.
However, I do not know a lot about cost of children etc.
It's only the two of us and we both have basic jobs, but still survive.

Anita

Well, congrats on the job offer - especially since it comes with accomodation and some bills covered - that will help a great deal. :nice1
40K would probably be a bit tight - but given that accom is included, and some of your bills - that may make quite a difference. However - where would you be living? Costs can vary from place to place as Anita says.
As for pensions etc - MOST NZ companies do not pay towards your pension - so if this is a concern then definatly find that out now. Most also dont pay towards healthcare costs - but some do get discounts on your health cover. Sometimes there are other benefits such as no run-in period for your health insurance where you are not covered for pre-existing conditions.
In fact in NZ - dont expect to find anything like the "perks" that you may associate with UK jobs. Its not that companies are being mean - but they have to pay a high "Fringe benefit tax" if they give you a perk. It kinda puts them off a bit!
Id also take a look at the "working for families" benefit. I have no idea if you are elligible as a new resident or whther there is a "stand down period" - but at 40k with 2 children - you may be able to claim.

Koen
Do you mean you were refused because children weren't allowed in the apartment?
Good luck in finding something else. :nice1

I'm not being nosey but could you not negotiate an increase in salary rather than accomodation? Have you asked if they provide any other accomodation suitable for children?
Just some thoughts of mine. :D

Probably not , they find the job is unsuited for people with chikdren , i respect that and will not continue on this path.
Too bad was a nice start but will (hopefully )find something else.
If they dont want my children maybe I dont want them either.

Exactly! You need an employer who respects your life outside of working hours.

I think that's awful Koen, your credentials and capacity to do the job don't change just because you have children! Hope you find a better job with better employers asap :)

Too bad, sorry Koen. I assume they said what they said because you may not get to see your kids that much, if you took the job. If they were just being bias and didn't want anyone with kids then you probably wouldn't have wanted to work for someone like that anyways. But look at it this way, if they weren't direct with you and told you that the job is suited more for someone single or without kids, you could have ended up moving to a new country taking a job you may have ended up on hating and that wouldn't have been a good situation.
