Hello everyone!
Out of interest, I have a Btec National Diploma (Software Development).
The buck stops at HNC level on the NZQA list at 50points. Has anybody sent off BTEC ND certificates off for (pre)assessment? If so, what came back?
Would it be worth me spending the £40 to find out?

Hi,
I took a BEC National Certificate (many years ago),which I think is equivalent to yours, except Certificates were for part-time study and Diplomas full-time and BEC was for business subjects and BTEC were for technical ones (hope I'm not boring you).
I might be wrong but I thought they were only equivalent to A-levels, which is why they won't appear on the NZQA list. Maybe someone else will know better than me. I then went on to study a professional qualification, which is equivalent to a degree - which I think is the minimum entry level on NZQA's list. Not including apprenticeships etc.
Sorry to be the bearer of possible bad news. As I said at the start, I took my BEC back in 1985  so maybe I'm wrong.
Good Luck
Ria

I did a BTEC ONC in Telecommunications engineering as part of a three year apprenticeship back in the mid 80's. NZQA assessed that as level 4 and 50 points. Luckily I had kept my diary, training schedule, and assessments from my apprenticeship and sent that in with the BTEC certificate and unit results. I think the fact it was gained as part of a three year programme might have had an impact.
This was part of a full NZQA assessment that involved a couple of other qualifications and took about 6 weeks to come back. This was in late 2004 so things might have changed since.
Hope this helps and good luck :)
