I took my PR application and my work permit application (To Christchurch office) and submitted them together (because someone on the site had suggested it- thanks!) and the officer gave me my work permit on the spot. I submitted through Partner so they felt I had enough evidence of our relationship for past 12 mo.
Now just waiting for PR -- he said they are processing them pretty quickly- but also gave me a caveat that it could be til the end of the year.
Now, just to hear back from NZ Law Society... and to Oregonkiwi I couldn't find your other message but it does seem like the law does not have a very high job satisfaction rating. Good for you for deciding what you do want to do. Lots of people stay stuck in it and are miserable..
Don't know if everyone knows this but if you are planning on going to school here - wait until you have PR as the tuition is 3 times cheaper.
