I'm not sure if this warrants the dancing bananas or not but I'm putting them anyway! :laugh

I took my PR application and my work permit application (To Christchurch office) and submitted them together (because someone on the site had suggested it- thanks!) and the officer gave me my work permit on the spot. I submitted through Partner so they felt I had enough evidence of our relationship for past 12 mo.

Now just waiting for PR -- he said they are processing them pretty quickly- but also gave me a caveat that it could be til the end of the year.

Now, just to hear back from NZ Law Society... and to Oregonkiwi I couldn't find your other message but it does seem like the law does not have a very high job satisfaction rating. Good for you for deciding what you do want to do. Lots of people stay stuck in it and are miserable..

Don't know if everyone knows this but if you are planning on going to school here - wait until you have PR as the tuition is 3 times cheaper.

Thanks guys! I'm a big fan of the bananas. :0)
If anyone is trying to get apps approved here, the Christchurch office has been great. They are at 73-75 Cathedral Square.
I might change my tune but so far NZIS has been 1000 times better than US Immigration when we were getting Permanent Resident Status for my husband in the US. I usually ended up on hold for about 1/2 an hour and most of the time in tears of frustration!
So, I guess it is all frame of reference....
