So I've just secured my job and effectively signed on the dotted line, though physically can't do it until we arrive. I just wanted to recommend my agent to anyone else looking, his name is Richard Chapman and he works for Duncan & Ryan in Wellington (though I think they have other offices).
Richard arranged for me to have video conferences with a company in NZ and he's sorted everything out so that I've secured a job before we leave.
If anyone is looking for an IT job (they only do it recruitment), I'm sure Richard could help. http://www.duncanryan.co.nz/ They've even got a great section on the website about life in NZ.
Good luck!

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for your tip. But I'm just wondering; Did they want your money?
toodles,

Hi Emma,
I was quite surpised by your question, I've never known an agent to charge a candidate, in all the job-hunting I've done, the agent charges the employer!
So no, Duncan & Ryan don't charge you, they charge the employer.
Good luck!

Hi Dawn,
thanks for your quick reply. I've heard of a couple of them and came accross some as well. I thought it very strange as well but it's good to know this one doesn't!
thanks!

Hi Dawn,
I was just wondering when the agent started being interested in your application? did you already have a visa and a confirmed date of arrival to NZ?
I'm just wondering as I seem to be told by agencies at the moment to contact them when I arrive in NZ with a visa or at least a confirmed date of arrival in NZ.
With the 4-month backlong in the London branch for ITA's with a job offer, I'm obviously trying to get a formal job offer to speed the ITA up.
Cheers
Brendan

Hi Brendan,
Yes, it was after I'd received my PR, as I didn't post my CV until after the PR had been granted (and we had a confirmed arrival date). Richard actually found my CV on Seek and he contacted me.
I'm sure Richard would be able to help you, but you would need to have a date of arrival in mind, because as far as I am aware, the employers would want to know when you can start.
Good luck with the job hunting and good luck with the ITA :D

Hi,
I am a Unix sys admin and a dba. Been looking at Wellington myself as we'd thought Auckland would be frightening for house prices. Do they do Wellington do you know?
Cheers,
Yogi.

Hi Dawn,
Do you know if Richard works with international candidates specifically? I called Duncan & Ryan and was told the consultant for international candidates would get back with me but I have not heard anything. I am going to Wellington in two weeks and wanted to arrange an interview with Duncan & Ryan. Their website only has a generic email address for contacting the Wellington office, so I was wondering if you could forward Richard's email (if you feel comfortable posting it here). Otherwise, I guess I will just call them again.
Thanks!
Gretchen.

To be honest, I'm not sure what Richard's speciality is, it may be testing, but I'm not going to swear to it.
Here's his contact details:
richard@duncanryan.co.nz and this is his direct line +64 48014674
I don't think they do "interviews" as such, it's more a case of - if they have a suitable job, they'll ring you for a chat. I'd give Richard a ring and see what he suggests, I've always found him to be extremely helpful.

Dawn, Apart from Wellington and Auckland, do you happen to have an idea as to which other places are good for IT in NZ ?
I am primarily looking at Wellington now and a second alternative as Auckland. I would prefer something other than Auckland as my second alternative though :)
Thanks
Sid

To be honest, if you get an IT job outside of Wellington and Auckland, you're lucky, but that's not to say there's none around.
Try doing a search on seek.co.nz, for the areas you fancy and see what's around. You could always give my agent a shout, he covers the whole of NZ, so will be able to give you a really good idea.

Richard told me to tell you guys to feel free to contact him, he'll help you if he can.

Oh..cool. I wasn't exactly sure if it was a good idea to mail richard just like that and him thinking of it as spam or something. :D
I haven't yet to spoken to anyone in NZ or have a contact in NZ. So, didn't want to start it on a wrong footing :)
Thanks a ton. :cheers
