Hi All

This may sound a stupid question, but what are the regular car parking spaces like in NZ, say in shopping malls, in town, in hospitals etc?

The reason is we have quite a large car and it is just a bit too big for spaces in Tesco etc. here. Would it be just the same in NZ or easier or harder? It'll help us know whether we should bring it or not.

(always assuming we get picked)

Many thanks

cheers

We didnt have any problems on our visit. Always plenty of spaces around, and mostly free as well. Given the numbers of large 4x4 s around in Nz, I shouldnt think size is likely to be a problem. Have you checked out the cost of shipping etc though, as this may prove more expensive than replacing it.
I also think you will find that which part of the country you intend heading for will be a factor.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check out the cost of shipping it. Its just that is not worth much now, but I have always looked after it, so in that sense its like new... Not a big deal either way

No problems parking large vehicles! But do watch out for head height signs on enetring multistory car parks! they are not very obvious and can be as low as 2.2m! So watch out if you have anything on a roof rack....like a bike! My friend in the UK once drove into such a car park and forgot about his bikes on the roof. Said bikes front forks were pushed through his car roof. :wah In France another friend of mine was towing his caravan and on entering the camping site needed to pass under a height barrier....unfortunately their was a rather large speed bump directly under the barrier which bunny hopped caravan into the cross beam :uhoh .....oops so glad I wasn't driving! :yes

Thanks Karl

Your stories reminded me of my mate's colleague who got a new company car on the Friday. Had a great weekend with his new toy and by Monday when his wife dropped him off at the station, it was pretty dirty. She decided to put it through the carwash. AS she was sitting there, she realised the aerial was up so nipped out to put in down. Unfortunately she left the door open, and the car wash brushes took that off and filled the car up with water/detergent.

The claim must have been good, as her husband worked for one of the big insurers. I must admit to laughing at their misfortune..

That was unfortunate, but like you say very funny!

I always had a small car in the UK as I hate parking in tight spaces, but we bought a 4 x 4 and I have no problems with parking here.

Please note I won't be driving when the bikes are on the roof rack, because I am sure that I would forget like Karl's friend Ouch that was expensive!!. :?
