[ RANT ON ]
Could we perhaps organise ourselves here and have a seperate thread for those wishing to discuss their EOI / ITA / PR timings?
It's getting a tad boring having to go through threads and threads which ultimately are all asking the same thing! How long? Why haven't I had mine? etc etc
Sorry, it's only a minor moan.....
BUT... surely we are all aware that a) if you have a job offer you WILL be dealt with quicker and b) it is taking a LONG TIME to process and send out ITA's due to the huge number of current applicants who have been chosen at the min points level.
Plus, if others would take the time to READ previous threads instead of just posting the question then maybe they'd find the answer that has been given so many times before!

I second that as I get fed up ploughing through the congrats type posting that usually accompanies the results of some of these too, couldn't it be taken as a given that if anyone advances a step on the process the rest of us are delighted for them., and those that want to say more can PM the lucky ones.

With due respect to you veterens (in posting terms only!) of the forum, but this sounds ever so slightly ingracious.
When we all start to think seriously about making this move information is something we crave, we need the answers quickly to try and rationalise the huge undertaking we are planning. We read everthing, look everywhere and talk to everyone then we discover this forum and many of the answers are here.
I agree that once you know the basic mechanics of the proceedure the 'how long' posts are boring... so don't read them. We have all made such posts or similar to gain the knowledge (and Guru status!) we are searching for.
I hope this reply doesn't come across as aggressive or rude, its certainly not meant that way but we need to support each other through this journey ... even if it is a bit tedious sometimes!
All the best

If you re-read moorfs posting she isn't asking you not to write in, just that you have a separate thread for the timings, although I don't think anyone knows for sure the answer to the timing question, even NZIS.
As you rightly say a lot of the information is on the forum, so why don't people use the search and find that their question is already posted and the answer there, instead of just posting. The search facility on here is great and it only takes a second to use.

Hmm, I didn't write a zillion posts on timings, and I don't post on here just to get a "guru" status either. Really, what was that comment about?! :?
I just wish people would use forums as they are meant to be used and that is to read them, search them and, if the info can't be found, then post.
Sorry if I sounded ingracious in any way.

May be the moderator could put a short blurb on the top of chat ,in big letters under the "announcemnt " status?
Moorf

Or perhaps make it a "sticky" thread i.e. perm at the top..
Phil&Shell
23rd October 2004, 10:33 PM
Yes, I agree. The 'sticky' seems like a good idea as long as we don't end up with a long list of rules at the top that people won't read anyway.

I can see this discussion from both sides (I get a damn good view from sitting on top of this fence).
However, each thread has a title - it takes a split second to scroll down them. If the topic doesn't interest you ....... don't read it. It's really very simple.
Ohh errr - I don't like it down here .... I'm getting back up onto my fence.
Peace and prosper :nice1 :nice1 :nice1

Unbelievable, that folks who are just starting out and trying to understand the process should be made to feel that they should not post their questions, concerns and congratulations on the most important factor of their move. Let's face it none of us can get their without a visa - it's fairly obvious what those posts are and if it does not interest - then don't read.

I absolutly agree with Lil and Diny,
The titles of posts are there for a reason..........If it doesn't interest you don't read them.
This is forum is not just there for info only but also a source of emotional support to knowing that people are going through the same as you.
I was a little irate at the comment about the congratulations thread. :(
This is a huge part of the friendliness I like about his forum.
People want to share their good news and journey each step of the way. And if it means a congratulations posting follows then that is part of the network of support needed at this emotional time.
If people don't want congratulating then they can say so in their posts.
I am off my soap box now

Is it only me that feels that very often the original title, after a couple of postings can very often change tack and bear no relationship to the title, which is great 'cos thats sometimes brings in other info. BUT its not always easy to read down the titles and just select what you want to read, could miss some good info that way.
I just feel it is getting harder to sift for information with so many chat (the lounge has sorted that, thanks Douglas) welcome and congrats postings. I thought that was what the PERSONAL message facility was for. Shoot the messanger if you like but I bet I am not alone in this. regards to all, Veronica

Who are the moderators of this site? If it's so much trouble to trawl through so many posts what do you suggest, that we only have one thread each for:
Visa Questions
I've sold my house
Got a job
Shipping Questions
Pet Questions
Flight Questions
I'm leaving
I've Arrived
End of.

I think we shoud have a date thread....we're all on here in the first place cos we've submitted an EOI. What the rest of us really want to know is how soon that is dealt with and the tme span with it being dealt with. The rest of the information we all want can be on separate threads...eg housng/life in NZ etc and we get that information from people on here who have already made the move.........a re-organisaton of the website is what is needed I think....

I think all parties could be satisfied with a F.A.Q., in the form of a sticky, perhaps at the top of the community page. This would not only cut down on repeated questions, but also help people looking for those answers quickly. This won’t help everyone, because even the common questions may require different answers depending on peoples’ differing circumstances, but it will help most. Obviously, Karl and Douglas would have to be happy to go with this, but we could all help. Perhaps, if the Mods agree, we could start a thread suggesting F.A.Q. content? As for the design of the board, I think its fine. There are separate forums for finance, housing and cost of living, etc. and it all works well.
Totally agree with Veronica about subjects switching in long threads. There’s a lot of good ideas or info in threads that have changed subject, so it is a case of reading them all if you want the best out of the board. Having said that, the support side is good too. Support though, is constructive advice and/or offers of a real, flesh and blood shoulder to cry on as has happened recently when someone in NZ was down about things. Support is organising, and taking part in meets. Support isn’t ignoring difficult questions because the guy asking isn’t too hot with his English, nor is it a bunch of emoticons with a WTG stuck on the end, repeated several hundred times in a lust for blue planes. And as for these guys that pop up telling us all they’ve got their PR through and they’ve only got a handful of posts, what does that say? Happy to lurk and take the info, and give none.
Lee & Nicky a.k.a. Wanaway – I DON’T mean you!!
When all’s said, this a good board which works, but I do think a F.A.Q. wouldn’t go amiss. My submission would be:
Q “I got selected today, how long before they get in touch?”
A “There’s no rules of thumb, your case officer isn’t mine. Besides, yours may have flu and mine’s on home leave. They’re probably both gathering dust. And the files. Our circumstances are different so don’t panic if I get my ITA first, and don’t get smarmy if you get yours before me.”

Jeez, well I am sorry I even started this thread ....
I have to say I'm seeing a change in this site ... I've always been here to answer questions - any questions - I merely suggested that there seemed a common thread of the same question which I, personally, felt was clogging up the site.
And before anyone has a go - I don't have my ITA, I am still waiting, so I'm not being arrogant due to having finished the process, I am in the same boat as anyone else and just as anxious to know timings as I am already in NZ.
Moving on.....

Lil, if you read through the titles you will see that many of the things that you suggest do have there own threads, and Douglas, bless his cotton socks, has put the Lounge facility to take up the chatty things that aren't actually relevant to life in, or getting to NZ. When all is said and done that is the purpose of this forum and like Caven I think design of the forum is fine, providing people are prepared to use the facility properly, including the search facility.
Belinda, ;) If we could find a plumber we would ask him for you. :cheers

Karl covered the point very well in an earlier post, there is room enough for everyones questions, hellos goodbyes and so on. I actually have been on this site since Feb 04, so have seen more than my fair share of repeat questions, goodbyes, goodlucks et al and really don't mind. Its not the case that the site is changing but do think that older forum members should have more tolerance with regard to newer members, just because we have seen it all before doesn't mean that those posts are not worthwhile.
The total number members on this forum at present is 380, of which 270 members have less than 20 posts. A further 45 have 20 to 50 posts and only 30 people with more than 100 posts. So if anyone else wants to get there name up there on the list, tell us what they had for lunch, breakfast and dinner good on yer and go for it.

Moorf,
I hope you don't think I was having a pop, I wasn't. Maybe it's because your post immediately followed mine and I've assumed that you think it was aimed at you. Not a chance matey! :nice1
On the whole, I'm in agreement with you.

I just wanted one thread where I could compare all the salient facts in one place. So I started one.
I quite enjoy all the back and forward though so I'd hate to be seen as discouraging that.

I disagree with Lil with reference to the older members being more patient with the newcomers. I in fact are a newcomer as we only submitted an EOI on 29th Sept and found this website around that time. But I have to say that I would have prefered the facts etc of the immigration process being easier to sift through (me being a newcomer). I spent hours on here going through all the threads but didn't find the information clear enough because I was getting bits from here and there and the threads were changing into other subjects . To now have a thread like Creelara's is brilliant.
I'm not trying to be argumentative with anyone......I just want to know the ins and outs of getting to NZ.....don't we all?

Hi All,
Moorf don't take anything personally girlie you are one of the most helpful oldies on the site!!
I do think and it is very very difficult for newbies to sift through stuff( I was offline for 4 days and it took me 2 to catch up!!)
If we all remeber Alijax brought up this very topic a few weeks ago and I then suggested the lounge area and wheyhey we got one!!!
Sarah Jane I agree with you that creelaras thread is marvellous but I can see it getting really long if there are over 300 members! But it will make things alot easier to look at other peoples timescales
BUT PLEASE BEAR IN MIND every case is different and other peoples timescales will not necessarily mean yours will be the same - I would hate for anyone to be dissappointed when they see other peoples status change and thiers not.
love linda x
