Hi ya,

Off to NZ in August and will apply for PR once out there BUT one nagging thought has been trying to get my attention and that is this:
5 1/5 years ago I had breast cancer - I was treated and am and have been all clear since finishing the treatment 5 years ago. Have undergone all the medical tests known to man and appear to be healthy. Has anyone here or does anyone here know of anyone refused PR on the grounds of an illness that happened over 5 years ago, and who is now healthy and has an excellent prognosis?

I cant answer your question - but just wanted to mention that you should probably look closely at cancer care provisions here to make sure you are covered in the unlikely (and hopefully never to occur) event of a recurrance.

I wrote about some if the issues in a thread on "Rights in nZ". Hopefully you will never need to worry about this - but if you are considering taking out private medical insurance - its worth being aware that it may not cover you without paying extra premiums.
