I have searched diligently ( :yes ) for the answer to this question on the forum, on MAF and BIOSECURITY websites. Am I missing a simple link to a definitive list. Looking back there has been conflicting advice given by shippers etc.

Is there an authoratative document somewhere that says "you cannot bring..."

Any help would be wonderfully appreciated

Hubby and I tried this website. MAF make it pretty clear and as they are the ones checking the containers this side it's a good idea to check out this link. We did okay EXCEPT shipped out some Christmas decorations and one had an actual pine cone!!! Got a telling off!!!

Hope it helps

Thanks - this link was really helpful but I noticed under "What you must declare" it says Do not bring - wooden items and curios! I can understand local carvings that we may have bought on holiday but what about wooden furniture? Surely they don't mean we can't take our beds?

"Wooden items and curios

Wooden items, especially those made of untreated wood, such as
traditional carvings and curios, can harbour wood boring insects and
other pests. Many curio items are also made with animal products,
which can be a source of pests and diseases. "

I don't think they mean furniture. We took wood furniture including a table made by my uncle out of a tree. MAF requested to "inspect" 68 out of 204 items in our container and the "inspection" was quite cursory. They did hold out one of two of the beds. the odd thing is that they did the inspection at our house so if they were trying to keep things out of the country, too late it was already at the house! :roll

Good luck

We received this email reply (from MAF) to a specific question regarding patio table/chairs (wooden) and bicycles (not wooden!)

"
A little more information for you....!

The garden table and chairs are fine to bring - they will just need to
be free of any organic material eg grass, soil etc. Similarity, the
bicycles just need to be "clean" steam cleaning is not necessarily
required and you certainly don't have to have a certificate for this!

These items will probably need to be inspected on arrival so just make
sure they are listed on the customs manifest and are, if possible,
readily accessible/

The following website has plenty of information about personal
belongings and the Quarantine requirements:

Good luck with the move - NZ is a not a bad little country!"

Hope this is of help to others

They are worried about borer (woodworm) too.

So if you have any wooden furniture with evidence of old inactive borer, they may well insist on it being fumigated. Bit late though when it is sitting in your house.
