Hi All,
Got friends who would like to try the NZ experience. he is a car mechanic here and has his MOT qualification.
Anyone know anyone with the same skills and who found it easy or difficult to get work?
Thanks.

I don't know anyone but has he looked here? It gives some idea of the qualification needed for VTNZ and there is a link to jobs at the bottom of the page.

I was a Mechanic/technician in the UK and got a job with VTNZ from the UK (advert in local Nottingham paper). VTNZ used to advertise a lot in the UK although I think that this may have stopped. VTNZ used to pay a relocation fee to help with shipping and airfares and using Malcolm Pacific as an imigration consultancy. you had to pay it then when you started work they would reimburse you upto an agreeed limit. you would then be on a 2 year bond to stay with them or pay back the relocation fee.
Vtnz have there own training centre in Henderson-Auckland and so will get you your WOF/COF authority asap. As long as you have recognised trade qualifications ie: city and guilds 381 part 1 and 2 and recent work expierence then not normally a problem.
Getting you Wof/COF authority shouldnt be a problem if already a MOT tester as its very similar although there is no emissions testing done.
As for other companies there is quite a shortage of good mechanics, diesel and heavy goods are even more so.
as people have said about other trades not wanting to interview or give you a job whilst you are in the UK you will find the motortrade the same so you may have to come over on a visitor visa and get a job and work visa
whilst here, you will not have a problem getting work.
VTNZ hold all there preliminary interviews in the UK, first will be to see if you would be eligable to work in NZ ie: qualifications, no police convictions etc. then you would be interviewed by consultant who would asses your skills and knowledge and suitability and if all ok then VTNZ would offer you a position where they have vacancys and start your immigration.
any more info required then just shout up.
