A useful list Veronica, thanks. Can anyone tell me what shape light switches generally are in NZ. Are they square like the ones in the UK or a different size and shape? We have some light switches that double as timers for security and we would like to bring one with us.

Tanya wants to bring the one in our bedroom too as it has a remote control :no

The outside of the lightswitches looks the same, don't ask me about the innards though. Won't hurt to bring them and try.

dont forget to bring a uk dry-line box though - to flush fit your switch, the distance the screw holes are apart may differ from the uk !

Thanks veronica,

I know shouldn't comapre but just for interest think I may print off the equivilant B&Q prices so if anyone hasn't left the Uk can bring stuff.

Paint maybe an exception so please all check out the MAF site.

Thanks Veronica and AliJax. It may have sounded like an odd question but I am sure that my MIL's light switches are much larger. Must be a West Coast thing. I'll go get my screwdriver. The shippers should be here any moment so I had better be quick!

NZ light switches and sockets are American sized, they fit into the standard "J Box".

The two big manufacturers of electrical stuff available here are Clipsal and PDL. You can see pictures of NZ fittings on their websites.

Interestingly, both are now owned by Schneider Electric...
