you will find this with most employers .Once you give them an arrival date you will be buried in interview offers they just want to know your serious.I came out firstfor 2 weeks at xmas and had a job offer in 2 days and he was willing to wait 8 weeks for me to start .i didnt take it but when i returned in march i had a job in 2 weeks. So many would bre new kiwis let them down and dont show there just being careful. If you can try and get out for a few weeks ,e mail all your contacts and sit back and watch the interview offers come in. yes, I agree with Cardy, they do tend to do just that.

We had a similar reaction, but when my OH emailed them with an update when we had PR they were all wanting to make appointments to see him.

so fingers xd, I'll be house hunting solo as he'd have already started work!

I do not think you are doing something wrong at all.
However, I think it has a lot to do with background, experience, profession etc. Because we even did not get any offer when we knew our date of arrival. We only got reactions like: "we see you when you get here".
Which was not a problem, because after travelling around and enjoying NZ we both started jobs within a month - being average jobs, not on any shortage list, but still a shortage in people to fill the vacancies.

Good luck,
Anita

I've had similar experience Koen, and I would agree with what Cardy says. We haven't yet been granted PR (applied through the skilled migrant-no job offer category). After sending off a few applications, I received correspondence from a few employers expressing interest in my work experience and CV, and want to set up meetings once I arrive. It certainly expedited the immigration process with a job offer, so it's a bit of a catch-22. They don't want you till you get there, but it's a heck of a lot easier to get there with a job offer.

Yep - we had to give an arrival date before interviews were booked or any interest at all was given - some of our friends have arrived here before the agencies would set up interviews. They must get many people saying they'll come but never doing it - I know I wouldn't be contacting companies and discussing potential applicants (and ruining my credibility) with them until I knew an applicant was serious & were on their way/actually in the country. Things can happen quite quickly when you get here - we came over only for a week and my hubby got his job offer in a 1 hr 'coffee and chat' with a company. They're so desperate that they don't just advertise when they need people - if someone looks good they'll take them on and wait for the work to come in! We went home & got PR within 5 working days of submitting all the paperwork.

Good luck - but my advice if you're serious book a reccy trip, not only from a job offer perspective but from a checking it all out persepective. Then contact the agencies/companies and arrange your interviews or at least alert them to your arrival dates - get back in touch the minute your feet touch the ground here (or go in to see the agency) - do check out the dates you're planning to come with them though - we had to get in before December when everyone tends to start sloping off on holiday.

I can only echo what the others have said - once you give them an arrival date, that is when they get interested.

Good luck

I'm with the rest of the guy's here. I've seen plenty of jobs for cargo on the seek web site but not for your job as train conductor (drivers yes) I've been in Auckland for some time not skilled so I need that offer aswell its a nasty circle cant work without permit cant get one without offer and employers don't wont to jump through the hoops for immi dept wot can u do !! Don't give up and keep on going!! best of luck to you.

It is indeed a vicious circle , since we have two children i van't just move without a job. I told to most of them i will make a trip over for interview , tests and everything needed to get the job.
One asked me to wait until December (they are waiting to see if they get a certain contract )
So will see what happends.
