After having read all the posts on TV problems, it looks like we will get an NZ DVD player to receive the signal for our TV but wondered which region they generally are. Region 1 is classed as US and Region 2 as Europe. What about the rest of the world?

Thanks

Only two weeks to go before we set off for our first trip to Christchurch and less than that before the movers arrive!!!

Exciting though . .

NZ is region 4. Should be able to unlock your current DVD by finding the code on the internet.

Maybe someone else can help with that bit :D

Hi there,

If you want to make your current DVD player multi region try looking at this site: www.videohelp.com

Once there choose the DVD Hacks from the lists menu at the left hand side.

Your UK/US system will then play any region discs. Our's works fine!

Cheers,

IIRC selling DVD players in NZ which are region locked is illegal - not sure if this is still the case or someone was takling me a porkie.

The new HD DVD and Blue Ray groups are talking about region encoding their formats which is complete madnesses as people are just going to hack their players or buy multi-region players.

I have Region 1, 2, and 4 DVDs so you can imagine I am against region locking especially that it is pointless as it will be cracked easily.

Nick.

If you're buying a dvd player in NZ but are just worried about your old disks playing - we bought a Pioneer here. It has a region 4 mark on the back, but the salesman told us it was region free, and when we got it home, it played everything fine. He also said the Sony players are not region free and are more difficult to unlock. Since the Pioneer was cheaper, he wasn't trying to talk us into more money.

Yep - you can hack just about any player except sony - although it won't receive TV signals unless you get a DVD recorder of course
