Hi everybody!
This is my first post. I have been reading the forum a lot these days, i am a Chilean female, just married, 26 years old, no children, Graphic Designers, both of us.
My husband and i just met the idea of moving to New Zealand 3 weeks ago. We have been doing a lot of research in Immigration NZ Official website, and we get to the conclusion that the best or faster way is just go as tourits and look for work; as i have read, some of you have done.
I am studying the most information i can on this subject, but there is one question that i have not seen on this forum, everybody seems to be mostly from UK, or USA.
The question is: do you think that being a Chilean (south american) person will make things harder for us? To find a job, to get the work permision, to make friends or adapting ourselves to your country?
All the things i have read of NZ on websites, and from you, makes me like more the idea to go.
Mostly we want to go, looking for a better future for us and for our future children. Just in case, i am not pregnant. But some day we will want to have a family, and we want to spend time with it. In my country is difficult to have a decent economic situation, and have time to enjoy life at the same time.
Anyway...
Somebody has a word for me?

Thank you everyone for being so helpfull without even notice. Good vibes expand itselves silently.

And forgive my english please!
I usually speak spanish.

Welcome Kali,

I don't have any specifc answers to your questions, but it sounds like you've been doing some research. My husband and I are doing the permant residency route as I am on the skilled shortage list. I wanted to say welcome welcome welcome. Chile has always been a country I wanted to visit, only got as close as Ecuador.

And no worries, your English is fine:) Ten times better than my Spanish! Espero que alguien aqui tenga mas infomacion que yo.

hello
I also just want to say, welcome to the forum, and your English is very good!

Have you looked at the Working Holiday visa?

Except for the language barrier, I don't think that being from Chile will make it harder for you than for any other migrant.

good luck!

Kali,

Your english is just fine, and probably written better by those who's english is their native tongue. I'm afraid i can't the specific questions you ask, but what i can do is tell you that i personnally know a Chilean here who has to a degree settled in Te Awamutu. He is here on a work visa until December, and working in the farming industry. I have spoken to him, asking the simple questions of why are you here, etc(as you say most are from UK,US) and the impression i get is he didn't have any worries at all making the move across the waters.Ok, he is here on a 2 year work visa, with the intention i think of extending it. When i speak to him at the weekend i'll try and get a true feeling from him and then post a PM to you.

Kali,

Have just spoke with Gonzalo, and he said just go for it. He feels personally that all has been fine for him up to now and he hasn't encountered any problems whatsoever. He tells me that he know's of another 5 of your compatriates who are on the south island, and they are enjoying it just as much as he is.

Hope these few words makes your mind a little easier.

Thank you everybody!
I am very happy to receive your answers, it worms my heart and makes me feel closer to NZ, even knowing that not all of you are there.
I will review the option of the Working Holiday Visa, i think my husband and i, are a little impatients, and we don't want to wait too much, if it depends on us, we would go right now... jiji. But we want to gather the certificates and papers we need, and save more money before we jump, as i said, we just decide it like 3 weeks ago (we are a little impulsive.. jiji)
Thank you Kim, for you comments about the Chilean that you know, i have read a lot of stories about people how are there living happy, but always coming from the other side of the world.
I think the only limitation that we have right now, is the languaje, my written english is good as you have said to me, my speaking is not that good, but i think is a matter of practice.
I really apreciate your words, and i hope we keep in touch.

Hi!
We are considering the working holiday visa, anda i have a question, somebody can help me?
I read that it starts in October, that is the period to arrive there? but until what date can i apply?
And if i want to go with my husband, what do we have to do to go the both of us? we have to apply separately? and what if just one of us gets de visa?

I will apreciate your answers.
Thanks!

hello
I don't know anything about Working Holiday visas, sorry. To find answers to your questions, you could contact the NZIS using their Online Help (see the Contact Us page on the NZIS website), or the NZ Embassy in Santiago http://www.nzembassy.com/contact.cfm?CFID=24856632&CFTOKEN=83647452&l=100&c=16
