I received a very positive reply from a NZIS marketing director to my very important questions. I thought some of you might find this info useful...so I'm posting it here.
Our situation:
We are US citizens.
My husband has recently submitted his qualifications to NZQA for assessment.
According to NZQA's website, he should be assessed at a level 5 or 6.
Once he has a job offer we will have 145 points and will send in our EOI.
My questions:
Are spas or sports medicine clinics allowed to hire a massage therapist from overseas (a non-resident)?
Yes. They have to try and hire a Kiwi, but if none appear they can offer the job to a non-resident.
Do they have to go through a special process, since his profession is not on the skills shortage list?
No the employer needs to.
Are spas or sport medicine clinics able to obtain a work permit to employ a non-resident?
Yes
If NZQA gives my husband an assessment level of 4 as a Massage Therapist, will he still be able to claim 50 points?
No, but a job offer should be all you need.
