Hi Everyone, I am a new member. We got back from visiting my sister in NZ 6 weeks ago and me and my wife Ange have decided this would be a great place to bring our 2 children up. We are very realistic to the pros and cons of such a big change but at the same time we are really excited about the prospects of going. Just started looking into things, all seems a bit daunting at the moment. Wanted to know if anybody has had any luck with jobs in banking or finance sector from the UK. Are there any good job agencies over there or here who help find jobs for migrants. Most adds seem to not want anybody to apply if they haven't got a work permit.

Hi Grif

I can't answer your questions as I'm also new to the forum but just wanted to say Hello. I'm originally from Leeds but now live in Scotland. My husband works in banking but in an IT role. What area of banking are you in? Let me know how you get on.

Hi Grif

Welcome to the forum. :cheers

Have you tried www.seek.co.nz (http://www.seek.co.nz) and www.jobstuff.co.nz? (http://www.jobstuff.co.nz?)
And http://jobs.nzherald.co.nz/browsejobs/categories.php?pbt=nzheraldcategorybanking

Also do a forum search for job agencies, I'm sure there is a thread on here with a huge list but for the life of me, I couldn't find it, sorry.

Hi Grif

I work as a Project Manager in the Finance Industry and have managed to get a job in NZ in the same field.

I was lucky as my employer has a branch in Auckland, so I applied for a role though our internal job advertisements. The job did however state "You must be legally entitled to work in NZ to apply". I rang up the hiring manager and explained my situation. The hiring manager was happy for me to apply and I was offered the job 2 weeks later (subject to getting a visa). I now have the visa and start work in just over 2 weeks time.

From my experience New Zealanders are really helpfull and will spare the time to speak with you (unlike the UK), just be open and honest with them. It sound like they quite often encounter the emigration "Catch 22" situation (need a job to get PR but need PR/work visa to get a job). You have to make sure that you are eligible for a visa if you got a job, then if they really want your skills, they will wait for you.

It might be worth finding out whether your employer also has a NZ branch.

I would also try going direct to each of the Banks and finding out if they have any suitable positions. I would try to speak to the hiring manager / HR instead of just sending the CV with a cover letter, then you can sell yourself before they even get chance to read your CV.

The main banks are: Westpac, BNZ, ANZ, National Bank, Kiwibank ... I'm sure there are afew others.

Also put your CV on the internet, so they can approach you, use the websites that Smiler has suggested above.

Good Luck with your search.

Sarah

You can register with ASB & Westpac and they'll send an e-mail when a suitable job is advertised.

I'm sure others will offer a similar service because it means they don't have to pay the huge agency fees.

Good luck.

Fantastic.

I'm gonna try my luck registering with these, they have some good jobs listed.
