Hi guys, well, new to the forum and new to the idea of actually emigrating so am looking for some advice please!!!
Yesterday i was offered a job in New Zealand, a really amazing opportunity, but i dont even know where to start with getting a visa, or even which visa i need. The job isn't on the shortage list and doesnt required me to be 'skilled'. If i need the working permit/visa im not sure i meet the points critera, im only 20 and do not have a degree, the highest qualifications i hold are A Levels, although i did study at university for a year and got 120 credits for this. Would a work to residence visa be more appropriate or achievable? i really dont want to let this chance pass me by, to live and work in New Zealand is my dream! Is there a 'normal' route to take when your in this situation?
Thanks, milkybargurl :)

Hiya milkybargurl - welcome to the forum!!
Having a job is a huge start. As far as qualifications and all the other information is concerned, go to www.immigration.govt.nz, and read all of the information on the site. There is a points calculator allowing you to answer basic questions on your situation, giving you an idea of routes you can take. You are probably looking at a work visa, which is not as stringent as the other access visas. This will allow you to get to NZ and start working, then you can look at the other options when you are there.
That is the starting point, and there is always somebody on here who should be able to provide you with an answer.
Good luck, keep us all posted on your progress!

That would be my suggestion too.
Good luck, hope everything turns out well for you, and welcome to the forum.

Have you explored the working holiday option to get your feet on the ground?
I don't know a lot about this route, but with A Levels, it may be more plausible and quick. This may depend on where you are from. A working holiday is a temporary work permit but gives you the opportunity to try it out.

Hello,
Just a quick note about the working holiday visa. You are restricted on how long you can work for any one employer on this visa so you would have to be quite careful. Also, my cousin, who was about your age at the time, did her year in NZ and when in Auckland met a lovely Kiwi lad and wanted to stay. When she tried to apply for a work visa at the end of her working holiday visa, she was constantly turned down as they felt that her job could be done by anyone and there was no need to stay. Unfortunately she ended up having to come back to the UK. If you can start by applying or a work visa, I would, unless you just want to try it out for a year.
Hope this helps.
