I would be surprised if the dish would be of any use in New Zealand. You list your location as New York so you are probably talking about DirecTV or Dish. The only satellite service I know of in NZ is Sky. I bet everything is different!

it doesnt have any affiliation with direct tv or any other outlet here in new york...the guy is programming it interference free of these companies .he's gonna teach my brother how to hook up the wires...he pre-programs satellite dishes...these are brand new dishes and once hooked up the stations comes up like butter..he gets the satillites from the overstock he carries in his truck...he takes a select amount that wont be suspected of thiefing and seels them...hope this cleared it up..if it doesnt tell me and i'll ask my brother for more clearity*

Sky TV is the only "Standard" subscribtion satalite in NZ, but as you drive arouns Auckland you do see some of those massive dishes that take up half the back garden - I assume to get some of the Asian networks.

So I assume it might be possible to do it yourself, but not done it, so only guessing :)

Would assume that the satelites used to transmit data on one side of the world won't beam through the earth to the other side of the world. You might find that something that would work in the US or Europe probably won't work at all here (and if it does work, the channels you may be able to pick up are probably very limited to whatever's on the Southern Hemisphere and available (and possibly not in a language that any of us would understand!)) - we don't have many channels at all on Satelite TV in NZ (thankfully!) - which could come as quite a shock to someone from America where there are so many channels available and the ability to link in to other country's TV stations with relative ease. We just don't have the population to support it.

If you are serious about wanting more TV channels than what is on offer here - I'd do some more research before spending money - especially on 3 satelite systems (are you sure these are legal? - they sound dodgy to me and I'd be very cautious!) Take a look on the web at google.co.nz for satelite companies in NZ, and maybe phone a company here that does specialist satelite installations to see what's on offer - they may tell you you'd be wasting your money which would be well worth the cost of the call or e-mail.

Only Sky TV is on general availability here - although, as Neil says, there are people in Auckers with some big dishes in their back gardens (as he says probably channels from Asia-Pac area) - haven't seen any in Welly though!

very good info sarah,i will send this over to my brother and get more feedback..i like the idea of phoning the companies and asking the services and might as well asking if a pre-programed satellite willl work there and pick up the chanells its supposed to...sweet i'll get back to you on that*

It is all down to encryption, Sky is not free to air, so a set top box is required in order to decrypt the channels. As far as free to air channels are concerned, I don't think there is much of interest there, not from what I have researched anyway. Good luck.
