Hi to all ENZ forumites. Just a short intro as we have joined this online community.

We are currently living in Peterborough, Canada. Jenny was born in Hamilton, NZ, and has lived in Wellington and Whangarei. We got engaged in Whangarei three and half years ago while I, Mark, was in New Zealand as part of my Bachelor of Education program in Ontario.

Jenny immigrated to Canada in August 2003 and we got married. After the completely backlogged and mismanaged Canadian immigration system, NZ immigration seems like a Sunday drive. We are planning to immigrate to NZ between June 2007 and January 2008, depending upon my finding work in NZ.

After reading and learning from your posts for the last few weeks, we are happy to be onboard.

Cheers, Mark.

Welcome Jenny and Mark from another lurking Canadian from Quebec...

Howie..There have been lots of threads about what UK people miss when they are in NZ and your comment about Timmies make me wonder what Canadians miss...

When my husband and I were down visiting he missed a good cup of coffee. I am a tea drinker so I was in heaven..

Would be interesting to hear what you miss...

Hi Howie and Laurie. Thank you for the welcomes.

It seems that almost Canadian crave Timmies overseas, eh? When I was in NZ back in 2003 I brought several canisters of Tims and my Canadian hosts danced around the entire house in glee.

Reese Pieces and other peanut butter covered chocolate snacks rank high among items missed by Canadian university students overseas.

Mark.

Mark - I didn't realize you couldn't get Reese's peanut butter cups here. I love those. You've just changed my entire perception of NZ. :(

Laurie - After living in the US for the past 4.5 years, I've gotten over Timmies, but I do still have to make a trip there when ever we're in Canada. I guess a lot of things I missed about Canada living in the US, I have found here. Friendly people, a sense of community, laid back attitude. But unlike living in the US, EVERYTHING is different here. All of the stores and name brands are different, the light switches are backwards, the seasons are backwards, the driving is backwards, no one understands my accent and expressions. And everything is really really expensive here. Getting used to the price of everything is taking some getting used to. We came here for an adventure, so in some ways it's neat that things are so different, but it does make us realize just how far away we are from home. Unlike a lot of immigrants here, we still think that Canada is the best country in the world, and we'll likely end up back there someday. I'm preparing a list to post on the likes/dislikes thread.
I found some Nanaimo bars here the other day. I think they're called chocolate custard, but I'm pretty sure they are the same thing.

Angie and Mick - Howie is my dog, and he's from Vancouver so probably no relation.
