hi singel
You would faint if you could see how things go up in the uk - in the last 8 -12 months our household bills have increased by £120 a month - not including food !!!!
Our council tax is £1400 a year & that does not include water (another £18 a month ) , gas & electricity went up about 20% a year ago with more rises expected - I understand that its all relative - but to be honest my 2.5 % pay rise did not even begin to cover the extra £££
All this with a hubby who keeps getting laid off for a week at a time - the generous company he wors for give them £ 16.50 a day as a retainer .
On the plus side - I found some petrol locally for only 91.9 p a litre yesterday !! a few weeks ago it was virtually touching £1 !!!!

ps sorry if this sounds like a moan - its nearly june & its hailing & i'm miserable !

Hey Vic, keep it coming coz life sucks! Like anything, life is great if you have cash, but if you haven't, well what's the point? Percentages aren't worth the paper they are printed on. It is all relative. 2.5% of 150k is a damn site more than 20k, but they patronise you telling you that they have kept executive pay rises below the rate of inflation. Plus they award themselves higher perks to keep the money rolling in. It is all down the the management of the fuel prices.

hi All,
this patronising government have the gall to say that they are surprised that there are less and less people taking up nursing since they made the biggest overall of our pay system and in thier words "gave nurse the most attractive pay deal in decades" 3.2% for each of the last 3 years. big deal. with inflation at 2.% (which doesnt include mortgage hikes, elec bill increases, feuk etc). and we are supposed to feel grateful.. NOW, they are laying off nurse all over the place which means we have to do more work.
Ok, NZ aint a bed of roses but at least they saw what was happening to their nurse and gave them a 20-30% pay hike over 3 years, which is dam sight more than 9%. And with reference to an earlier thread on here by StevieD, I also want to get away from a country with ever increasing no-go areas, violence and a lack of respect wherever u go, and give my kids a chance to be kids again.
I dont know how old people are on here but i remember as a kid 25-30 yrs what things were like here and although they werent perfect a kid could still be a kid for a lot longer. People say that going to NZ is like going back 25 yrs, SO WHAT !! Id rather go back in time than stay here in the present.
Right, that enough of my ranting !!
Tony
well thats enough of my rant !!!

Vic, {{{{{ BIG HUG }}}}} to you.
I knew very well the feeling of being laid off cos' I was also a victim 2 months ago.
Keep everything crossed for your hubby's job searching and your family's emigration to NZ :nice1 :nice1

Tonyb,
You reminded me of a song I really like that's on the radio at the mo - I wish I was a punk rocker by Sandi Thom .. it sums it up for me! Have a look at the lyrics..
http://lyrics.doheth.co.uk/songs/sandi-thom/smile-it-confuses-people/i-wish-i-was-a-punk-rocker.php
"Kids were wearing hand me down
And playing games meant kick arounds
And footballers still had long hair and dirt across their face"
Makes me smile whenever I hear it, only eclipsed by "One Whisky, One Bourbon, One Beer" which I used to hear a lot on Hauraki Radio.
Cheers,
Dawn
