As most of you know Linda & I will be in Auckland from 2Jan05, for the first 2 weeks in Jan we are sorted for accomodation, after that we'll be renting,

heres the angle,

does anyone know of any rental property likley to be available from this time, I may be better posting this closer to the time but thought what the hey!

It has been mentioned that rentals through agencies are less than perfect so thought I'd try the direct approach.

When I was looking for rental accomodation in 2000, the best bet was the NZ Herald.
I think it's Wed or Thur which is the accomodation pull out.
No going through agencies, just straight through to the landlords, much better I think.

Hi Ali & Linda,

It's a bit early if you are going to go it alone, however I would still let rental agencies know you are coming and let them prepare a short list of properties that meet your requirements. You can then view them when you arrive and get a good feel for prices/areas/standard of accomodation etc. You don't have to sign up with them just view whats available. There are plenty of ads in The Herald and local freebie papers to follow up on.

Where are yoou staying on arrival and where do you plan to rent?

Karl :cool

we went to a property thing on weekend and met a v good saleswoman (top in nz, small wonder she was sent here - switched on and a great closer!!!). her advice was to get there and deal with buying agencies, apparently renting for a few months is no problem and salespeople usually have places close at hand to get you over the hump.
incidently, my archi hub was surprised to see rather nice new build prop's designed by archies that he found exceptionally good long-term value - so best don't right off 'expensive' inner city areas till you look, especially if you do not have children and schools are irrelevant. distant coastal prop's priced as london flats - not unusual to pay more for rural coast than auck centre. !@£$%^&
