Hi all,
As I am new to this forum I would like to shortly introduce myself:
I am an Austrian citizen living in Germany for a couple of years; working in the IT industry as a freelance consultant. I submitted my ITA together with my spouse in the beginning of March. In August I plan to travel to Auckland to do some job interviews.
I would like to continue my freelance work in NZ, which means: short term contracts instead of permanent positions. If you sign a short term contract, they normally want you to start within 1-3 weeks. I just wonder if I could get my PR in time, when sending the job offer to London. Has anyone experience with snapshots like this?
I really have to mention, that the variety of topics in this forum is overwhelming and the comments are very helpful. I hope I can contribute adequate :=)
Cheers,
Jerry

Welcome to the forum Jerry. I'm sorry I can't answer your question as I took a different route to yourselves, I gained PR through the partnership/family category. Applying for PR this way is very easy and very quick, once the paperwork was sent to NZIS it was just a formality, I heard back within about 3 weeks that all was OK (although it was actually 3 months exactly before I got my stamped passport back due to holding off paying the migrant levy).
I've heard of people getting work visas issued at break neck speed but I don't remember anybody getting PR issued within a couple of weeks. But just because I've not heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. one thing is for sure, somebody on this forum will be able to tell you.
I wish you all the best for your immigration journey and that we can welcome you over here soon.

Can you go and start a job and finish your VISA application over there?
Good luck!

Hi Diny,
I guess a work visa would be fine until my PR arrives. Hopefully this causes not any additional bureaucratic work for me.

Hi Dawn,
I am not sure, what you mean, with “finish my application”? I sent all my documents to London in March. As Austrian citizen I can not apply for a working holiday visa and I think it is not legal to start a job without any visa. The point is: a recruiter could give me a job offer at short notice. But the offer gets invalid, when I do not have the PR/work visa in time.

Hi Jerry
Welcome to the forum.
We submitted our ITA in mid July and were still in the queue awaiting a case officer when OH (who is in IT) was offered a job one sunday night in late september.
He contacted NZIS the next morning, was assigned a case officer and they called to arrange an interview for Tuesday afternoon. NZIS said the interview was a formality because he had a job offer. We were granted PR the next day and travelled to london to get our magic blue stamps on friday, so 5 working days in all. We shipped out the following Tuesday.
This was in the UK though, I don't know if your timings will be different. But basically once you get a job offer, contact NZIS straightaway.
Good luck.
