Hi there, we are new to the board and we have found it so useful having just started on process and job search.

Our 2 children are adopted and we wondered if anybody knew of or had any experience with post adoption groups similar to Adoption UK. Where the kids are at school at the moment there are quite a few other adopted children and we have got to know their families. It would be nice to know if we could contact any groups in NZ. Haven't been able to find any info on the internet.

Hi,

We're currently trying to adopt over here & I've been researching all these things - there are quite a few adopted groups that get together (well in Welly there are anyway - I guess if you are moving somewhere remote you might have less chance).

CYF (Child, Youth & Family - social services to you & me) - you won't find anything on their internet site but they're pretty helpful if you phone up and speak to a duty social worker) and local coffee groups will be able to point you in the right direction when you get here.

There are all sorts of groups for children adopted via intercountry - i.e. Russian & Chinese as well as general adopted groups.

Most people I know know at least a handful of people who have adopted kids so I don't think you'll have any problems in hooking up with other families in the same situation as you.

Good luck!
