i am hoping to go to NZ in sept for a 1 year working holiday. My wife who is 29 and my 2 littel kids are also comming. i am 31 so cant come on working holiday visa. Was thinking of comming on a 1 year work visa. I was told that we would all need medical wich would be expensive. My question is can i come and work for one year and not have to have a medical? I will have a job offer as a nurse when i apply for my visa

hi mike,

for a work visa for more than 6 months you need an x-ray for TB but not a full medical.

don't know about the requirements for working holidays - but i'm sure someone will be along shortly who does!

good luck

thanks for that. It is a lot of money for all the family to have medicals. but if we only need xray thats not to bad.

cheers

When we applied for our WP 2.5 years ago, full medicals were only required for 3 year WP. It might have changed since then (or my memory might be at fault!) Check with the NZIS website.

Mike, you may not even need the x-ray. I think you only need that if you are from, or have lived in, a country that NZIS considers to have a high incidence of TB - there's a list of the countries that are exempt on their website, and the UK is on it. That's for visas for up to 12 months. If your visa is for longer than 12 months you need the full medical, irrespective of where you live.

I asked this question of NZIS recently in connection with my student visa application, and that's basically what they told me. I think it applies to all Temporary Entry categories.
