Hiya gang
Sorry not been posting, but what a whirlwind of a few months we have had, plus only just got our own broadband setup up. Well a quick little update is in order I think.
We are living in Kaiapoi just 20mins north of Christchurch, we have bought our own house. Wendy started work 3 weeks ago and is enjoying it, I played the house hubby bit and loved it, all good things must come to a end, I start work tomorrow :wah We have found a brilliant kindy for Luke who loves it which was a big worry for us.
We have made some great friends here, some of the forum ie. Moorf, Tara, Andy & Jo, KC&S plus others I cant remember all the names, we have made some nice Kiwi friends.
We are all well and very...very Happy here and absolutely wouldn't return to the UK.
Must dash Tara & Danny have just arrived, we are off doing a little off roading down to the local river.
Hope everyone is well.
Daz, Wendy and Luke.

Hi Dazza
Glad to hear you have settled well.
We too are looking to settle in Kaiapoi or Rangiora when we come over in September.
I wont ask how much you paid for your house but are the prices what you thought they would be?? and is the quality of houses what you imagined they would be.?
And my last question (honestly !!) Do you know how long it would take to drive from Kaiapoi to Cashmere outside of the rush hour.
I know you must be busy, so sorry for all the qustions
Thanks in advance
Tony

Great to hear from you Dazza, and good to hear you are settling in nicely. Been having a bit of lunch with Kat & Rob today in Tirau as they are en-route to Christchurch. So they should be with you over the next few days.

Cheers Tara ;)
Excuse 1.
Technically it wasn't my fault we got stuck, if the 2ft deep rutted quagmire wasn't there we wouldn't have got stuck :exit
Excuse 2.
We got stuck on purpose to test out our vehicle recovery skills, we passed that with full marks. Me panicking "Oh my god Wendy is going to kill me" and Danny running off to find someone to help pull us out. (Thanks to the kind chap who yanked us out)
Helen there were pictures taken, but not by me. The helpful chaps mate took some :o

Hi Tony
Sorry didn't reply sooner, one of our friends travels from Kaiapoi to cashmere, I asked her last night. It all depends on what time you travel, it would take you around 30 - Min's peak time. Rangoira would be another 10min's on top.

Haven't done it that much, but really enjoyed off roading - is it popular over in NZ?

Can't speak for areas other than Canterbury but here it's very popular. Many people take their cars down to one of the braided rivers and drive up or down it either hunting or just having a laugh in their 4x4's. There's also the fact that if you want to get out into the isolated spots and to many of the smaller lakes or further into the foothills you do need to get off the main roads and onto the gravel tracks, which is kind of "off road" in that whilst it looks relatively driveable it can be distinctly "off road" at points. We're not talking muddy hillclimbs or swamps just testing roads that do have fords and can be boneshakingly corrugated (is that the word?!).
You'll soon realise why many have 4x4 capabilities as it gives you access to areas otherwise out of bounds. Plus it's a good laugh.... :D

Off roading is very popular up here too. In fact, my father in law is the founding member of the Manawatu 4WD club - we have a pile of old cine films (been put onto video) taken over the last 30 years or so of when they all went off on their weekend offroad jaunts.
It's excellent fun!! Also beach driving is pretty good too. If any of you have the opportunity to give it a go my advice is DO IT !!!!!
