Hi there, we are looking at shipping our caravan (not had any quotes yet) but just had a thought- how high are the containers (inside!) We know they are 20 or 40 feet long but how high are they? Gonna measure my caravan tomorow but i think its a good 8-9 feet high and 7.5 feet wide.

Any advice??? :uhoh

Well i spotted Excess Baggage Ltd on t'internet and e-mailed for a quote to ship my caravan- 21ft long, 7ft 10" high and 7ft2" wide. They mailed me back saying a Roro ferry would cost me £3050 :eek: plus customs costs £320, and also said containerised shipping would be £1310 :yes plus £320 customs.
My old van is only worth 4grand, but 1300quid aint bad, especially as the van is worth about £10grand in NZ.

Been all excited about caravanning in NZ with our own little bit of england in tow for a week now. Even looked at towcars on trademe.

Well i got another e-mail today to say "sorry, it is too big for containerised shipping, we sent that quote to you by mistake, you will have to Roro ship it at £3050. :mad:

Gonna try some more places but looks like it will be on ebay this time next week- ho hum.

We have had britannia out today and the guy said there are 40 foot containers that are called high cube (which may fit in a caravan) - try giving them a ring - have to say the chap was very good, not got the quote yet but they are one of the companies who don't seem to get bad feedback on here!

If you are taking a container anyway - increase it to a 40 footer , fill up the caravan and the rest of the space in the container - may be worth checking it out! The difference between a 20 and 40 footer is approx £1500 - £2000 it seems, but you may have to pay more for the high cube, worth investigating before it goes on ebay!
