After studying the skills shortage list and identifying that neither my husbands occupation, or my previous (changed career 6 months ago!) occupation were listed we were feeling a little (a lot, actually) deflated.....
But I decided to email the Pharmaceutical Society of NZ to see they recognised my UK qualification as a pharmacy technician. They told me that they have put a case together to ask for the job of Pharmacy Technician to be added to the skills shortage list - so that is quite hopeful! :clap
On my first thread, it was mentioned that we could come over on a 6 month holiday visa - and then try to find a job when in NZ. If I do find employment during that time, could I then apply for PR on the basis that I have an offer of employment - or would I be more likely to get a Work Permit first?
If I do get a work permit, how long would I have to stay in that job?
Sorry for all of hte questions..... :)

can't answer for sure about a job on a work visa BUT I do have a feeling that a work visa is issued for a specific job and is only valid for that job. I know that when my son in law arrived he had a job as an engineer and was told that they are so short of engineers that if he wanted to change his job just to go and see them and they would just issue another work permit. So it does seem to depend on the occupation.

Hi Foxglove
There a couple of pharmacists on the forum, Avalon and Karen. (there may be more)
Hopefully they'll see this, but I'm sure they won't mind if you PM them. :D

Hello there!
I havent registered here, so Im afraid I wont be a whole lotta help. My understanding is that certainly retail pharmacy assistants here dont need to be trained as they are in the UK, so you may find your really are in short supply.
Its possibly also worth giving the big locum agency in the UK a ring. Im having a senior moment and cant for the life of me remember what they are called - but head office is birmingham - they will be in the PJ or C+D. They can be of some assistance for Pharmacists wishing to emigrate over here - I dont know whether that extends to technicians or not - but its worth a shot.
And if karens experience is anything to go by - bring lots and lots of tablet trianges with you! You will need them.
Also - where are you based? ( And you questor) I only ask because it turned out that Karen and I (who actually got to know each other off the forum via her partner, via a friend of mine) had both worked in the same area, and I had even locumed in her shop. Tis a small world indeed.
Hugs and good luck
