Having just read some articles in "STUFF" newspapers regarding the shortage of Prison Officers in NZ and the need for overseas recruitment , can anyone shed some light as to why this is ?, is the salary of $36000 not a decent wage ?or are the Prisons that bad ? Cheers Jocko
PS Why do they need so many new Prisons ?! :booby

Hi Jocko and welcome to the forum!
Can't answer your immediate question but a salary of NZ$36,000 is an average wage in NZ! However depending on how much capital you have behind you it would not go far in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch with regard to property purchase, but if you have enough to but a place cash or take on a small mortgage it would be OK.

The other info was posted earlier - see

I don't know if any of it has made it onto the official NZIS sites yet.
Hope this helps
