For people in my position (not moved to NZ yet) is there anything short of bird flu breaking out and New Zealand going into quarantine that would make you change your mind about emigrating?

For people who are already there, is there anything that could have happened that would have stopped you moving?

(Question prompted by NannyOgg's terror thread and our own collywobbles at the moment. :exit )

Nope and if something major had happened in NZ (and it would have had to have been seriously major to stop us!) we would have moved elsewhere. This was something we'd both wanted to do since we were young, so we were pretty set on it.

Of course if someone had been terminally ill in our family we would have postponed moving but that was the only thing going to stop us! (and luckily it didn't happen).

Collywobbles are quite normal - even when you get here & everything is different from home. It takes a good while to settle in.

No, nothing short of some sort of disaster, either in NZ or to family in the UK would stop us now. We have to try and even if it doesn't work out for us we would not be left wondering what if? :)

I reckon if someone offered me £1m to stay in the UK I would probably do it. Although obviously I'd talk it through with my wife first.

Short of some kind of global disaster or some event beyond our control, no, I don't think anything would have made us change our minds. We're the kind of people who decide to do something and then do it. Even if things don't work out we can rest assured that we found out for ourselves.

Worries are normal, not having them 'could' be an indication that you may not be thinking things through enough.

You'll be fine, and like my hubby alsways tells me ...... Auckland has a departure lounge !!!!!

Probaly the only thing would have been a seriousl illness in teh family - because it that point - I owuld not want to be apart from them. Even now - I need to be able to know I cn afford to get back if anything serious happens, and we have a fund for that set aside.

I do wonder simetimes if I had seen in a crystal ball just how hard I was going to find it at first whether I would have had the courage to go through with it - but even then - you would have to take into account where we are know that we are through that bit.

Terror is not a bad sign. This is a HUGE step and it is quite frightening for most people. Some of us struggle with the whole thing for quite a while - so dont feel in any way that to be worrying, or to find it hard to settle once you get here means that you are not a "good immigrant" or that you will not make it. It just takes somepeople longer than others.

Yes, or even offering us WTR may be enough to stop our plans. I'm not sure that we can get there and gets jobs in the very short timeline that WTR seems to have.

:D Very funny!

Although on a serious note - it deosnt have to be the ned of the dream in all cases. If it ever happens to anyone - they should get on here and get ideas! Sometimes the cloud has a silver lining :D
