We arrived back from our reccy 12 day trip to NZ yesterday, just wished we'd had longer out there!
Flights with Singapore Airlines were good, did n't have time for a stopover.
Stayed at Bk Pioneer Motor Lodge in Auckland for the first night, then had a 6 berth motorhome through Pacific Horizon for 10 days, which was great fun.
Did alot of the North Island in that time,(no time for the South, that's next time!!).Had to stay around Auckland for OH to have some interviews, that were just really chats, very laid back.Went to Mount Mauganui which was lovely,Rotorua to the thermal springs on the outskirts of there,(can't remember all the names! but also still abit tired from the flight!),Napier,Wanganui,Cambridge/Hamilton (thought of you Cardy!!),Te Kuiti (was -3 that night!) and Whangarei.
Was n't anywhere that was n't nice and we did n't enjoy, just wished we'd had more time.
OH had 4 chats in total with potential employers. The 1 in Auckland is very promising, should hear back at the begining of the week, but want something in writting,2 of the others are interested but no jobs at present, and the other still waiting to hear back.So all in all a good trip and hoping that the Akl one does come off, just need a few things clarifing first, so will keep you all posted, but they are so much more laid back,so trivial things to them is quite major to us!! will have to try and get into their ways!!
Girls had a great time and none of us wanted to come home, they are really hoping that the move will come off too.
Enjoyed Auckland Zoo and also the Aquarium at Napier, where we were just so close to the 2 Kiwi that are there, made our day! At Napier we stayed at the Kennedy Park Top ten Holiday Park, def the best we stayed in,very clean and good facilities.
Scenery was just beautiful, and we did have good weather which helped.
Motorhome was fine,no probs at all.Had a 6 berth for the 4 of us,girls are only 8 and 10 yrs,but it would have been cramped for 6 adults!! By the end of the hol the heater was on all night, and the girls and I were wearing socks and extra clothes in bed!!
The last night we stayed at the Airport Travel Air Motor Inn in Auckland, which was fine, alot cheaper than the BK one,and quieter too, although did enjoy the spa bath in the Bk after a long flight!!
So to sum up a fab time just not long enough.
It was our first time to NZ and hopefully will not be the last! it certainly lived up to all our expectations and more.
One thing to add to our list when we hopefully move over is an Alpaca! or 2!!!plus the pony/horse,and we are bringing most defiantely our Golden Retriever!
We changed our estate agent just before our trip to NZ,no one around the house as yet, but alot of interest on the internet and a few brochures have been requested,so fingers crossed we might have some interest.
The trip has certainly made us more determind to move, just the thought of everything to sort out is the worry, and then medicals, you just never know if they are going to reveal something unexpected!
So over the next few days we will hopefully have some more news on the job front so I'll keep you all informed.
If things go in our favour I'm sure there will be a 101 questions that I'll have to post on the forum!
But in the meantime thank you to everyone that has responded to all the posts I have put on here already. :nice1

What a great post, Jameelka.

Glad that you enjoyed your trip.......you certainly got a lot done in 10 days.

Hope that hubbies interviews work out well for him and that you start to live your dream soon.

Good luck with the house sale.

Great post !!1 Sounds like you had a great time and managed to get some miles under your belts.

BK Pioneer Motor Lodge - we've stayed there on a few occasions and are always pleased with how clean it is - in fact, as I write this my hubby is there, he gets back home later today.

A good idea to get a bigger camper van, a good rule of thumb is to get one bigger than you need as they can be abit squashed.

Hope you hear from the jobs soon - fingers crossed that the house sells and that you can embark on the next stage of your 'dream'.

Keep us posted.

What a brillaint post Jameelka. There's a small chance we might end up doing something like you as we need to be over by November to activate our PR, so a short holiday might have to come into play (we still haven't sold our house :().

There's 6 of us in our family, including an 18 and 15 year old, so sounds like we're gonna need something bigger than a 6 berth for us to be comfortable. How easy are these things to drive around, particularly in more built up areas like Auckland?

And, the very best of luck with hearing about those jobs.:nice1

You'll have a great time.
My OH drove the motorhome all the time,I did n't dare incase anything happened!!He said it was just like driving an old transit van!! noisey!!
As we went in winter we needed the heater, you might need the air conditioning!!
We went into the centre of Auckland as well as other places, not a problem but to park you might have to go around the block a few times, as ours took up about 3 parking places depending on which way you could park it!! as they are so long and stick out!
Would def say they are the way to see places, and great to stop and have a cup of tea!!
Good luck with your plans.

If you are going in summer can't you take a tent for a couple of the kids to sleep in? They have plenty of room inside for driving around. And yes they are really easy to drive.... they don't go very fast though. I kept putting my foot to the floor, but it just ended up making it lose power!

Great to hear about your trip Jameelka. Would love to do something like that when we get there, before we settle down to much... maybe the South Island.
Wishing your OH all the best in finding a job
