Yes contrary to popular belief there is life in Dunedin :nice1

We,ve been here for 8 weeks now and things are beginning to settle down a bit. Sorry for the lack of updates but we have literally not sat down for a while and no access to the WWW except for int cafes.

In summary we are very happy with the area we have chosen. Dunedin is a decent sized town (city), no congestion to note and a good mixture of shops and restaurants. To the north and south some real nice coast line.

It's positioned quite good for access to some real beautiful arreas. So far we have been down to the catlins, Invergargill, Alexander, Omaru, and Moreki not to mention the local sights such as the peninsula (which has some real spectacular wild life, albatross, sea lions, seals blue penguins, yellow eyed penguins etc etc). :clap Central otogo snow fields are about 2 hours away if you're into sking.

We have lived in a motel for 2 weeks and then a converted garage on a farm for about a month. We finally found a house we liked and were suprised how quickly we took possesion. About 2 weeks from offer accepted to moving in!
We now live in Ocean view - a 15 minute drive south of the city and right on the coast with some nice beaches at ocean view and brighton.

Weather has been kind but we have seen some horendous flash floods (apparently 25 year floods) and a few hard frosts. But on the whole so far the weather has been far nicer than what we are used to in Cardiff. There seems to be a big yellow thing up in the sky far more often. :yes

We are slowly getting the house straight and have taken delivery of all our stuff from the uk. Still having a small problem getting my bike through the compliance testing but it's nearly sorted.

Posted a few photos of the area here

Missing the familly and friends terribly at times but that should get a bit easier. Stress levels have been up more than usual but to be expected I guess with such a huge change. Things are showing signs of mellowing out a little now.

Work is very simillar to the uk but attitude towards dress code is far more relaxed. People in general are far more down to earth.

Enjoying every moment so far - good luck to everyone else

Enjoyed looking at your photo's, we did not visit that area when we came last year. Whats the weather like? It is nearly twelve here and its 21.3c out side. A little warm in side, no covers tonight.

Hi Wynn and Liz. Thanks for a great post and also for some ownderful pics. Seems like Dunedin needs to have a visit when we finally got down to NZ :yes.

Whereabouts in Cardiff are you guys from? Strangely (don't faint) we've seen a fair bit of the yellowy thing in the sky over the past couple of weeks. Although to be fair before that we hadn't seen it for months :no. Last night we even stayed out in the garden until 10.00pm without having to put thermals and coats on .

BTW, what is the mad looking boat in the pics. Looks rather awesome.

Good luck in setlling down and hope you get your bike sorted soon.

All the best

Steve

Hi again

steve - lived all around - cathays, vic park and more recently newport. Liz is from thornhill.

I heard through the grapevine that you guys are having a bit of a heatwave - about time eh? :raebanana

The boat is going to be doing a record breaking round the world trip going for a record time and it runs on Biodiesel. It is doing a promotional tour first off for some PR and raising some dosh I expect, so look ut for it down cardiff bay!

Forgot to ask on my last post - is there anyone on this forum from Dunedin or the surrounding area? Maybe meet up for a beer or a coffee sometime?

Wynn And Liz.

PS

That boat was in Welly a few weeks ago. OH was invited to go on a trip (corporate jolly) round the harbour in it.

I was dead green. :wah:wah

He had the front to ring me from the boat, when they were in the bay below our house and the crew and passengers all woohoo'd at me down the phone.

He said it was absolutely fantastic.
