We are planning to start our application for residency in August this year, as we've read it can take about 9 months from start to finish if you get through the selection process. If we are selected, we'd like to make the move in November next year, but we're going out on a reccie trip in March and want to be in a good position if the dream job comes up while we're there.
It occurred to me there might be a time limit on moving out to NZ once PR is granted (I'm sure I've read this somewhere, but can't find it now!). I'm torn between not leaving it to the last minute and giving ourselves enough time once we know they'll have us to make final preparations. Does anyone have any advice on this?
Thanks.

You're right, once you've paid your migrant levy and they issue the PR VISA's, you have 1 year to activate the VISA's.
You can delay your migrant levy payment for up to 6 months (I believe), so in effect, you could have 18 months.
Should be plenty of time for you to make all your preparations. We got our VISA's issued in February and we go in 3 weeks time (roughly 6 months).

Thanks for that, Dawn. Good luck with everything. I'll keep following your progress through the forums.
Its encouraging to read about people making it. It seems such a long way off for us......

My pleasure.
And if our experience is anything to go by, it'll fly by! One minute you're thinking about it, next minute, you're worrying about who's going to buy your sofa!

The migrant Levy payment can be delayed, as already mentioned above. This gives you extra time. Without job offer it can take longer: I submitted my EOI in October (see signature below) and I am still waiting to get a CO (Case Officer) assigned. Better start planning how to organize which document and when(!) ASAP. You can trigger you EOI later on and do the whole process quicker as I did.

We were granted PR last February and fly out in October, my daughter is joining us for 3 months in January (just in time before her visa runs out :roll ) she may well go back to the UK after 3 months, and then as I understand it, she will have approx 18 months in which to return on her residents visa.
so, in my opinion, there is plenty of scope to find out if you really want to make that move or not, you don't have to sell up immediately if you don't want to, although it seems that most of us do.
good luck with everything, it's a rocky road but is helped enormously by the support of everyone on this forum.
