Hi All

My name is Nikki and this will be my first posting. We are hoping to come New Zealand we are just waiting for my husband to get confirmation of a job offer. Only thing is we will be coming out on a work visa and then will look to get residancy when out there. We will be based around Auckland if all goes well. Can anybody please give any advice on going out there on a work visa then applying for residancy as opposed to doing the EOI in UK. Also need some adive on the good and bad suburbs of Auckland as wewill be taking 2 young children.

Many Thanks
Nikki

Hi Nikkie, welcome to the forum!
Don't have much advice on the visa, exept that it depends on how much time you have before you need to leave for New Zealand. If you have not much time the work permit is an option, or maybe a Work to Resident visa.

I can really recommend a book called 'Where to live in Auckland', it gives heaps of information on all the suburbs of Auckland.

Hi Nikki

Welcome. We are proposing to do what you are doing but as yet with no job offer - will fly out in August and look for work once there and apply for PR. As we have not yet done this I cannot offer advice but there are a few folks here who have - Morph and Hannah spring to mind. Hannah also had 2 kids - once there she managed to get PR within 10 weeks of applying! If you search all of her posts you may find something useful there - she has also PM'd me useful info so I will forward it to you if you PM me with your e-mail address.

As far as destination goes I know there are plenty here who have settle in or around Auckland with families. Personally we are headed to the North Shore. It is like suberbia (sp) on the sea - very clean, tidy, not too far from anything but a 20 - 30 minutes drive in to Auckland City across the bridge- traffic permitting. Lollypop on here has settled in Browns Bay. If you a do an internet search you might get some pics.

That's all for now. Good luck and keep us posted. BTW how old are your kids ?

Hi Nikki

Welcome to the forum. :clap:clap

Have you done a calculation of your points on the NZIS site?

I understand that it is cheaper to apply for PR from here in NZ for medicals etc and quicker too. :nice1 Like Nanny says, if you search for Hannah's post's she tells it like it is.

Good luck with all your plans.

Hi Nikki,
This is my first post as well. My hubby & I have got work visas and leave the uk in 2 weeks. We went for the job visa because his employer wanted him to start in 8 weeks.
We had the job visas back in a week :) We have also applied for PR & were selected from the pool a few weeks ago. We have a case worker already but we are going to do it all in NZ.
It's a lot cheaper to do it in NZ & it will be easier to do it over there. We can also use the same medicals & info, so it should be a quick process.
I can't advise you on Auckland we will be living in or near Hamilton.
All the best
Julie

Thank you everybody for your advice. It is greatly appreciated as i'm sure everybody on this site agrees. At such a monmental time in your life all advice is vital. Never knowing which is the best way to go. If my husbands job offer comes through we will have a short timescale to get out but still don't know if we should still and try EOI in UK? And hope it all comes together or just get visa and permit to get out to NZ then apply for residancy? All advice is greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
Nikki

Hi Nikki

I'm not sure on which way to go for you either, other than the quickest. :laugh

When are you expecting the job offer? You could start gathering all the basic paperwork now, birth certs etc so that you can be ready when the time comes. :nice1
