I must admit I don't find it good at all. We would not get any extra points, hubby's in IT but without a degree which is a must. So "the competition" will get more points, we won't, don't see much good in that. Sorry.
Better get our application in as quickly as poss.

It makes senese to me, in that NZ is suffering a massive shortage in the building trades area. Just as in the uk, people have not been encouraged to gain proper qualifications in a lot of these trades, rather they simply followed in someones footsteps (like myself). Now NZIS are saying that experience can count towards extra points, rather than relying on paper quals. This, I`am sure will boost the numbers of skilled personel putting in EOIs.

Although I'd done an Electrical Apprenticeship and gained modest qualifications, when I looked into submitting this info on the EOI, I had to have a minimum of quals - did not have, but I've been working in the Design, Construction, Wholesale & Maintenace sections in Electrical Engineering & Building Services for 14years.
All this said - I didnt qualify for any extras points(that I could find).

This is the part I'm particularly excited about:
">> Operational policy will be amended to make it clearer that skilled applicants without a job offer can, if they are assessed as being highly employable, be granted permanent residence without a job offer..........Examples include nurses, teachers, ICT and the creative industries."
Although the 2 year work permit didn't concern me too much PR has a much nicer ring to it!! :clap

Hi all
NZIS website is calling for submissions on Occupational listings for shortages etc.
Golden opportunity for those of you who are skilled but not recognised and thus short on points to have your say.

Can you clarify where the announcement is made on the offical govt website?
Glad they've decided to recognise family too, certainly will be a big help acclimatising.
Cheers

Sorry if I sounded quite dumb, but what is ICT? is same as IT??

ICT = Information Communications Technology as far as I know. So yes, the same as IT but could be taken to be more tightly defined, or more loosely defined depending on your point of view! :?

That's the link to the ENZ news, not the official govt statement.
The emnedded link shows the POL list, I was hoping for the official line on the detail in the article.

hi everyone,
if EOIs have already been submitted, will the points be adjusted come Dec 1, assuming one is qualified for the additional points?
thanks,

Cheers Timbo, managed to print and digest yesterday.
Well that's an extra 20 points in the bag, so maybe we will get our EOI in this year after all.
Given that the department is so under budget on new bodies I guess it would be pointless to announce such changes and then whack the qualifying level back up.
Bring on December... :nice1

I don't know how they will work the points thing, it may be that you will be judged on the critera that was relevant on the date you submitted. NZIS got a lot of stick a year or so ago for changing the goal posts after people had put in their submission and they had to reapply so I would think they would try and avoid that mistake again.

all said and done, the most points to boost your eoi is to get a job offer in nz especially in the pol and that which is relevant to your skills or training.
i noticed in another topic that those who received their ita's and soon to have their pr's are those who have job offers (points above 150). those who have 100-120 points and have been selected are still waiting.
so the almighty job offer has to be included really.
would being selected from the pool make any difference to employers who say "only those who are eligible to work in nz can apply" for all the jobs that are advertised?
just wondering (and getting green with envy... really, how do you land a job in nz?)
:cheers
