Hi All

Sorry to mention the C word in the middle of summer but we have just cleared our loft this weekend and found a rather lovely fake tree. However, we usually have a real one.

Now for studip question No. 357...

Can we get real Christmas tree out in NZ :o

We have packed all the decorations but don't know what to do with the tree! We have Kids so Christmas will still be quite a big deal in the Ogg household for the next few years!

Thanks

Lyn

We used to have one of each in UK.

So shipped our one year old fake tree, it's a nice one and was expensive.

Saw lots of real ones for sale last crimbo, by the side of the road, in markets and gardens centres. Just like the UK.:nice1

Just make sure your fake one hasn't got pine cones attached. MAF don't like that. :(

Oh yeah - real trees - but they are a different TYPE of tree. Not sure which type of pine - but no such thing as "No Needle Drop Nordic Pine". And they have really really long needles (which - for future reference do NOT hoover up well if you have a built in hoover system - the hoover will get blocked and it will take HOURS tpm get it unblocked).

We got at ours at a Christmas tree farm - a "cut your own tree". It was wonderful.

Thanks All

Think I will put it in the " can come if there is room in the container but will find a new home for (quickly) if it wont" pile.

We want to use a 20ft but when the chap came we had 1225 CF of stuff so have been frantically trying to find new homes for / dump 225cf of stuff!

hi! so then, how much do real christmas trees cost?
If we'd want to have a 10ft tree.... how much would it cost us? Can anyone shed light on this?
As per the "cut your own tree" .. i'd also love that :yes .. how much? :)

$10 - $20+ depending on where you buy it - in town perhaps more round the $20 mark - down a track in the country - $10/$12 - further down that track with a chainsaw.. free. ;) :laugh

HI does anyone know where we can get an artificial white tree in NZ? have tried a few places already in ti rau and hamilton but no joy.

Just going back to the bit about going down the track witha chainsaw reminded me of when i was little and my dad was a miner on strike and we did that but we didnt have a chainsaw took turns with a bowsaw tied it to a pushbike and walked home with our coats covering it.MEMORIES :)

Paul. Elaine said FARMERS or, believe it or not MEGA MITRE 10:laugh and you should have some luck around Oct onwards. As for the xmas trees themselves, you will not get the Nordic pine here in the middle of summer, as it is an Autumn tree, but you will be able to get a European style and we paid $20 for a 7ft.

Thanks! :) Hmmm.. which is more popular then, the real ones or the artificial ones?
As for Christmas and Christmas decorating.... is it popular in New Zealand to deck the outside of houses with Christmas lights and decorations?

There's the usual mix in my experience, some people have a tree draped with lights, some stick a few santas on the roof, others (like us :o ) blue tack cards to the doorframes and be done with it. :laugh Ohh ok, I usually stick a tree up :) But I'd say most homes don't decorate outside.

But there's always the extremes!

Our kiwi neighbours did that as well, it is really nice :nice1
The only feedback from them is that it get dark at 10 pm during Christmas and the lights were switch on nearly at bedtime.

I love decorating at christmas but I'm sure it won't be the same in NZ!

Kev is real humbug about it (it's only cos its his birthday on the 25th and he misses out!! Says he is demanding we go to the beach for his birthday this year! ;) ) But we have discussed how different it will be with it being summer ....

No cosy fire to sit around whilst the fairy lights twinkle away from 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The kids will probably never be up late enough to see the lights on and appreciate them.

Soooo I have been through our 'rather large' pile of boxes of christmas decorations, and managed to reduce it down to two boxes, and two trees (we had 4 trees!!!) gave a substantial amount of stuff to the charity shop. :wah

I had made sure when packing away last year that there were no pine cones, feathers or straw ornaments in the boxes - to comply with MAF regulations.
